In prep for the June 22nd weekend of wheeling, Ive started addressing some concerns.

I will be cutting out my bad section of unibody rail beside the gas tank and plating all 3 sides with 3/16" steel. Im hoping to get to it this week sometime, I will have to drop the tank and all that. (boooo). Looking forward to the job otherwise.

Also, I just ordered the IRO HD tierod. Last trip out I had a near miss, VERY hard hit that would have bent the tie rod and left me stranded. Luckily the rock went just below and one of the diff cover bolts took the hit (yea gna have to cut it off lol). Since I have a 40-45 mile one way to WBR, Im not gonna give the stock rod a chance. The beefy IRO rod will likely never bend, but I could see it making the stock TRE's a weak point under a heavy hit. Ill take my chances, spare TRE's dont take much space, easy to fix on the trail, and available almost anywhere.

Also, I am 2/3 of the way saved up to an ABSOLUTE necessity. Clever use of sudden braking under throttle only got me so far on open diffs last go around. I made all the obstacles my locked buddies made but had a much harder time in some spots. Considering my wifes street queen Trailblazer has a factory G80 locker I find it pathetic my XJ does not. Soooo hopefully next week I can order an Aussie for the 8.25. That is the plan anyway.

Well after more thinking, I changed the plan a bit. The biggest problem I had was just getting the front end to pop up on some obstacles due to ****ty open diff sending power the wrong way, so I determined Ill get more use out of a front locker.

Aussie D30 ordered. It is cheaper straight from Aussie but NorthRidge4x4 had free shipping, making it cheaper overall.

Broken axle shafts! This is the only part that's steering me towards a LSD for the D30

i feel like LSD is worse cause when it engages its more violent. A true locker you know is always locked.

I've got a stock LSD in my D35, and I never feel any engagement of anything. Would a front LSD have different characteristics?

Oh, you can beat that feeling. Laughing at a broken axle shaft, when the victim wasn't even on a tough part of a trail.
