Trunk privacy cover?

Anyone know of a good trunk privacy cover? I just bought my first Jeep, a 2000 XJ, and I need something to keep people from seeing what is in the trunk. Did these come with some sort of cover for the trunk? Are these readily available? I tend to keep certain things in my trunk (fishing gear mostly) and would like to keep prying eyes from seeing what is in there. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Yes. Yes. And yes. Check any local jy and you can probably find the roll up cover and mounts.

So the YJ is a Wrangler from what, 87-94? As I recall, this model does not have the spare mounted inside so how is this cover to work? Seems to me the early Grand Cherokee (ZJ)would be a more likely swap or am I wrong here some where?

Good point. I hadn't thought about the tire being in the way.

He said JY not YJ. I went to the junkyard last saturday and looked in every hatchback car and smaller SUV and NONE still had the screen in it.
I did find that every 95 and older I saw had clips inside for one.

My wife has a Trailblazer and I tried to fit the screen from it in my XJ. It's far too wide. You need a 51" MAX and probably a 50" wide screen to fit depending on the brackets you fab. I am considering making a plywood/covered in carpet cover for my 99.

My buddy offered his WJ cover but it was over 51" too

No matter what you do you'll probably have to take the spare out

They didn't make them for XJs for very long afaik. I've seen thousands of XJs in the JY and never seen the roll out privacy covers.

I used to have one in my XJ Wagoneer. If I had know they were so rare, I would have kept it

I've got one in my XJ. It came with one from the factory, but it was long gone when I got it (all the hardware was still there though, just the cover was gone), it took several weeks to find a replacement on Ebay and cost around $100 (in workable, but not perfect condition) while ZJ, WJ, etc. covers which are much more common can be easily found for $20-30.

I think they've finally been discontinued, but when I checked a couple years ago you could still get a new one at the dealer (special order) for about $350.

There is one on e-pay now for a 93-98, don't know why it wouldn't work for a 2000...

My 90 XJ Laredo had a stock one. I took it out in 2K or so, and the cheap plastic brackets on the rear broke off. Since then I just didn't keep anything in my "trunk" worth stealing. Plus my windows are limo tinted.

#14 in the thread linked below is just like mine:

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=916829

Ordered ours from the factory and I don't recall if that was a 'dealership' item or a 'factory' item or even what it cost. We don't have a full size spare so ours hooks on the drivers side and passenger side the same, it isn't as saggy as the one in the photo. Covers my tools in the back.

That is for a ZJ Grand Cherokee, you can tell by the two plastic clips on the end that attach to the hatch, the XJ cover uses a retractable rod and attaches to the body sides (pics of mine below):
