Trim removal
What is the best way to remove this trim that are on the doors and rear quarterpanel on my -89 xj?

I want to remove it because i am going to replace it with diamondplated sideplates from warriorproducts.

When i took mine off i just slowly pried, cleaned With bug and tar remover and only had one spot where it took the paint with it.if i were to do it again id buy some isopropyl alcohol and soak it, maybe pry and get enough underneath, let it soak, that would totally make the process better. And then clean the paint with the isopropyl also. If real stubborn use bug and tar remover also

Clothing steamer will take it right off along with the glue. $20 at walmart, target, ect

Works great on stickers and window tint too.

So i just need heat and pry away the trim slowly.

Once you get it pealed up some you can stick the end of the steamer wand between the trim and the door and slowly steam/pull. You should see the glue lift off with it. I'd suggest some gloves as well since the steam can be pretty hot.

You can get some heavy test fishing line, and once you get it behind the trim use a "push pull" movement to cut through the adhesive, should come right off. Then steam, or use rubbing alcohol to remove the residue.
