Total noob question but here we go...

WHY THE **** is my rear suspension squeaking??

Ok from the beginning, was running totally shot pair of factory leafs with AAL and began to notice some obnoxious squeaking as the rear suspension cycles. Considering they were in awful shape all around, I broke over and bought new leaf lacks (RE 3.5") and installed them and it seemed to squeak a little less at first, but still did it a bit.

That may have been me bring in denial though because its now definitely as bad as before. Its annoying. SCHQUEEEEKY SCHQUEEKY. ****. Killing me.

Now, assuming no other changes, common sense would dictate that it may be the bushing in the shackle squeaking. Thats probably true but I had the wife shake the Jeep around while I attempted to pinpoint the source of my squeaking, but I really couldnt find it. Felt like it was as audible at the front mount as it was near the shackle.

Anyone else had a similar experience/simple cure? Im getting tired of tearing this damn thing apart.

To clarify, did you replace the bushings or just the leafs?

There's a chance it's not the suspension at all. I thought my suspension was squeaky because I heard a squeak every time I hit a bump. I jumped up and down on it trying to get it so squeak and I couldn't. It ended up being my exhaust system. There's a little rubber bushing (?) that was worn. Granted this is on a Grand Cherokee, but that would be nice if that's all it is.

Bushings are new as well. Shocks arent but it still squeaks with them removed so they arent a factor either.

XJs have track-bars in the rear, correct? Is yours still there?

Thanks, Ill check on that, but my exhaust is relatively new as well, and I personally welded the pipe and hangers.

When I grab the leaf spring I can FEEL the squeaky but still cant find location. Anything good to just soak things down with to help me pinpoint this? WD40 maybe?

Maybe the centering pin? That would be weird if it was both leafs, though, nevermind.

How about the u-bolts? Any play? Again, weird if it was with both.

I know you said you could feel it in the leafs, but does anything change with the gate open? I knew a guy that happened to. It squeaked and he kept thinking it was suspension.

What other moving parts could we be missing?

Maybe it's the bolts rubbing in your shackle relocators.

Got it fixed, thanks for the suggestions guys. I ended up lubing the fiction pads between the individual leafs and it shut up.
