Tint

I am going to be painting my XJ Silver in the next few months and would also like to get some window tint laid down. My question is, what percentage would be recommended for all-around privacy but still have visibility when hitting some trails? Pics would be much appreciated!

I would also consider local laws on tinting before you lay down the dough! A lot of states don't care about rear passenger tint but care about rear window and front driver and passenger. Where I am from there are laws but not to enforced the state next door has the same laws but strictly enforced so I choose to follow them since I travel back and forth often. I wanna say i did 20% in the front and 5% in the back but not sure. When I get off of work I'll take some pics for ya and look at the receipt for the % of tint

I would do a solid 35% all around...I did 35% and 50% on the rear hatch and windsheild. Can't really tell they are even tinted..
35% is dark, but no to dark when trail riding at night and such!

Check local laws first thing and go from there. 20% is probably a good medium. You have to ask yourself how much you wheel it. I only wheel an occassional weekend and in daylight mostly, and local PD doesnt enforce tint here. I run 5% and I wheel fine.

Local law here in CO states there is no limit if you leave your front door windows clear but if not, the most you can do is 27% the whole way around. I'm thinking of doing 35% on the front door windows and rear window; with 25% the rest of the way. I don't hit too many trails yet but do enjoy camping and find myself doing some night driving in the hills at times.

I put 20% on mine. It's pretty private. And it matched up with my factory tint really well thats on the back.

I believe most if not all windows on cars these days are at least 20% tinted from the factory, unless you special order your car without tinting, to check just put a white sheet of paper on the back and top side of the glass and you can see the difference. So if your tinting with 20% your actually doing a 40% tint, so I would vote for no more than 40% total that way your night driving wont be too degraded.

wrong wrong wrong.

plenty of cars come from the factory without tint. plenty also come with and i think its about 25%.

also, the lower the tint percentage the darker it is. so 40% is barely tinted at all. although, 20% on top of factory tint would be pretty dark, your number is just wrong.
