So, Finally decided to make a build thread for my XJ.
Anyways, I've owned three Jeeps (two ZJs) since I was 18. The first was a 94 5.2 ZJ in absolutely perfect shape with 93k miles, garage kept, undercoated, absolutely amazing. It stayed stock, and 3 months to the day was totaled by a drunk driver and I began my search for another Jeep.
Two weeks later I was in my 96 ZJ, 114k miles, had her for about a year and a half. This one I actually modded. Until the transmission gave out and I didn't have the money to fix it, at which point it was scrapped.
When I got it:
Before it got scrapped:
Which brings me to the XJ:
I drove around in my dad's cavalier while trying to find a new Jeep:
For sure get the tactical ... and tell me about it ... but at least you can still get some ammo for that... F'n good luck getting ammo these days damn ...
I think I'm going to get a cross bow soon just because ammo sucks so bad
This weekend a guy from work and I are gonna do the control arms.
Last night I tightened up all the track bar bolts, geometry will be back to normal once the arms on it.
So anyways, when we did the extended brake lines we had to cut a chunk of the old brake line off and put new one on for the rear hard line. Bent slightly up and into the stock retainers, then the braided steel line down to the axle.
Yesterday I got the control arms done. Since I had to move the axle almost 2 inches forward it took us about 3 hours or so to get everything done, plus a trip to advanced to get new bolts for the upper control arms on the axle side.
However when doing them that is when I realized that my passenger side control arm mount is completely ****ing shot. It's bend, ripped, and the steel is rusted and weak. Calling shops today to see how much it will cost to get a new one welded on, as I still haven't bought a welder (ugh).
Hey so ... did you get a two inch front stretch out of this !!!!!!! **** YEA!!!! genright sells some stuff to grace your steering ... and I think you can get some sick control arm mounts for pretty cheap .. you should get those if your going to fix your mount.
My steering is alright it just needs aligned. Control arm mounts are cheap, but I need to find a place around here that will weld them on. I don't see how it could cost more than like 85 bucks to rip the old one off and weld the new one on.
Center to center measurements (wheel to wheel) are:
101" Driver Side
98 1/2" Passenger side
That alone tells you how much I'm losing from that ****ed up mount. Oh well, next week that will be fixed and it also means next week I get to align it for the first time in 2 months!
e: That's with both lower control arms set to 17 1/2"
Absolutely not. Bending it back is a terrible choice imo because of the amount of stress that mount gets, bending rusty metal is going to make it weaker, even with the new welds. Instead it would just crack in a different spot.
I'm not happy about it, but $150 to have new mounts on both sides of the axle is a damn good deal.
A welder is coming, I just need to find a used one on craigslist or something.
I think this summer I am going to re-coat the underside. This time instead of Chassis Saver I am going to use Mastercoat, apparently this is the stuff they use to coat steel bridges and all sort of craziness.
Right? Just walked outside on my break and was looking at the mount some more. It really needs to be next Tuesday like now. I don't like the way it's on there at all and don't particularly feel safe driving it.
The bilsteins are amazing. Especially with the new control arms on, it rides great and I barely feel anything on the road. It'll be even nice once the alignment is done and the tiny bit of bumpsteer that is left is solved.

I dunno what the weathers like up there, but you could probably get another axle with spare shafts in it for a lot less than $150. But old stock mounts on an old stock axle will never be as strong as that new stuff your having welded on.
I'm fairly certain that axles go for a little be less at the local jy with me pulling it, and with the weather about to get crappy, and no way to take off work, it's not worth it.

That's coming in May with my paid vacation.
