With the way that piston exploded like that, I'd be willing to bet that the cylinder walls are ****ed.

Cylinder walls look ok, I think it may have jumped the timing or something, I'll have to pull that apart later this week and see.

Whew, sorry to hear about the mishap man. Thats so odd with low mileage for a 4.0. I hope it all works out for you and you get it back on the road (or off the road lol) as soon as possible.

Credit Union called and asked for my paystubs yesterday. Any time I've seen a lender ask for paystubs you're more often than not approved. So hopefully it won't be too long until I'm driving something.

Not trying to be a downer, but asking for paycheck stubs is merely protocol for most any lender in order to verify proof of current employment and income. It doesn't mean anything regarding loan approval.

If there's no lien on the title of your current XJ use it as collateral - usually approval is easier and the rate will be better than a signature loan.

Are you going to buy another XJ?

Perfect time for adding one to your arsenal and you'll have 2 of them with working parts to swap if need be.

Your situation is pretty lousy and I don't envy you - best of luck in getting that rig back in order.

I know that, they are checking to make sure you can actually pay back the loan if they give it to you. Yes I could still be told no, but it's better than being told no immediately. Plus the fact that it's my works credit union, typically they are more forgiving.

I have a clear title for the XJ, and if need be I will offer it as collateral though I'd prefer not to.

Not sure yet, I may just buy this ram: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ctd/4062746958.html Dude said he'd take 6700, but I'd offer him 6k cash and see what he says. That would give me a tow rig, then I could buy a used motor from a jy for ~400 and have both vehicles.

Didn't catch that - I'd say you're golden.

.....and the tow pig route - definitely a better plan than my suggestion.

Or always throw a piston in it, put it back together, sell it for 3500 (and pay back almost half the loan) and then with my tax return by another one.

Don't make a "trick trap" out of it to sell it. If it blows up on the next person, you could get sued.

Only if I didn't disclose it during the course of the sale.

At which point you will not sell it for $3500.

That's a better plan...if you're willing to do all that work, wouldn't you just keep it then?

I upgrade everything I fix on mine. If my motor went out like that, I'd be thinkin' 4.6 stroker. I hate selling for a loss, too.
