are you going to switch the jeep for one or just add it to the collection? after seeing personally how these can take a beating i would not hesitate to buy one. there are a few things to look out for but they are few and far between. the 3.0 V6's like to blow head gaskets. the IFS is stiff and doesnt flex well at all. but aside from that they are great trucks. my step brother has an 88 p/u with the 3.0 4x4 and it simply doesnt get maintained aside from oil changes and when things become necessary. its got 190k and runs perfect. now his brother had a 1990 4runner, same specs. he treat it like he stole it. jumped it all the time and actually ended up rolling it down a hill. and proceeded to drive it home. they are bulletproof

if you're thinking brand new...then wait a year or so. toyota's 3.0 diesel and TD's are supposed to be coming out int 2010. supposed to be...i doubt they will but that's the plan. and a 6.0 TD in the tundra.

oh, and by the way...the tundra's are bad arse...i dont care about off-road...i mean...come on...we're talkin close to vette speeds in a full sized pickup with little aftermarket add-ons. intake, exhaust and a chip and your'e there.

Stock for stock jeep loses to toyota. Many of you are comparing your jeeps just to toyota trucks. The world of landcruisers pretty much kicks a jeeps ***. Sorry.

I would turn and walk away. Every engine toyota makes since the mid 90's have had oil sludging problems. We have quite a few that come into my shop with sludged motors and these people do regular maintance like they are supposed to.

Other then that they build a decent vehicle, but the engine thing in my opinion is a big deal. Also mid 90's tacoma's had major frame rust out issuses and there is a recall on them. If the rust is to bad they pay you for it and crush it.

dude..... this is a bad place to get unbiased info but what the hell i'll put in my $.02

the 2 cherokees i've had, both 4.0 AX-15's have never let me down......the engine is bullet proof and the manual with a 6 cylinder is great for towing. also with 3" lift and 31's they are capable offroad and still get good gas mileage. the D30/C8.25 is hard to beat and are easy to work on.

toyota landcruisers are great.....and their smaller pickups are great......but its depends on what u want it for. you can either get the better v-6 and a newer vehicle but be stuck with ifs, or go old school for the straight axle and be left with an older vehicle and probably a 4 cylinder or do a lot of work and fab to have both

to me the cherokee was the most universally appealing vehicle. big engine, manual trans, solid axles, and proven long life and capability

I like yotas better than libertys ....But all seriousness my family has had land cruisers of many yrs and jeeps.I took the jeep side for some reasons..#1 - can find parts cheap 2#- Can find parts in my pick n pulls readily available 3#- simplicity of design 4#- I buy american vehicles...Thats just some reasons why..But if i could get my hands on like a 85' toyota straight axles,22re i would buy one in a heart beat..There so rusted out though frames in all...

LMAO My buddies "landcriuser" has more jeep and chevy in it then toyota. cruisers are crap. and he'll agree with me. the axles sucked so he put 2.5 ton rockwells, the t case sucked so again rockwell, the engine sucked so 350 chevy, the steering sucked so he put in jeep. he has all jeep seats, the only thing toyota on his rig is the sticker on the windshield, which is? you guessed it fitted with jeep windshield wipers. oh and i'm yet to see a harley that doesn't leak oil. come on guys get your **** together 100 years and i still have a freakin oil spot in my driveway.
