Sway Bar Idea. Got Potential?
Alright I was watching TV and this idea for a disconnectable sway bar came to me. I finanly got around to making my POS tablet work, and so I drew it up. It would mount just like a normal sway bar, except it is just a straight torsion bar, with a disconnectable arm going from the bar to the endlink. To disconnect, you slide the release lever back and lock it. That allows the arm to rotate freely on the bar, effectivally disconnecting it.
I wasn't looking at affordability, but functionality. This would be quiet, as there is nothing to rattle like some discos, and strong, and easy. No need to bungie up anything. Here is what I drew up. ![]() If something doesn't make sense just ask, and Ill try and explain. Let me know what you think. Oh, You would only need to disconnect one side, so the other could be fixed, making it cheaper. Also with both disconnected the bar could rotate and then be really hard to realign and reconnect. Plus using that type of end link, you could easily get longer ones for different lifts. Background: I got the idea from "Trucks!" (i think). They put on some discos that you rotated a dial to diconnect it, but it just freed up a joint, similar idea i think.

The concept does. If you mean the picture, yes it does too, but you can't read it. I guess picasa doesn't like linking to the full size photos. I have not had any trouble with doing it like you just did.

i personally don't sway bars, but i do commend your ingenuity. It seems to be the same principal as a anti-rock, but cheaper. Build um and sell um for about 150 bucks and you will have currie out of business in no tme...prolly not, but a good design none the less

Technically it is. Anything I say do or write is protected by intellectual copyright.
Anti rock is bullsh**t. It is just a light weight sway bar, there is nothing special about it. You sacrifice handling on road for flex off road. Pure and simple physics. Mine actually is disconnectable, and could be offered in any strength bar. If i get bored this weekend I will make a mock up out of PVC or something, or a small scale model to show its function. I don't have any fab skills to do anything, or the tools for that matter, or the access to materials for torsion bars. Mainly I was wondering if you thought it was a solid concept. If so I might pursue it futher. I am always looking for my ingenuity to get me rich, or at least get me through college.

How does posting on a public forum about your idea, give you rights to a copyright? WTF is intellectual copyright? Why don't you actually use your idea and make the product, then I would be impressed. Sounds like the same crap i have been pissed about for years. Back when i was younger I thought it was stupid for cars not to have rotating headlights when going around corners. Guess what, that **** happened. Oh i said it back when i was younger how it would be cool, that must be a copyright. I got a couple more examples as well. |

Intellectual Copyright is a legal term that can be upheld in court...look it up. If he has proof of his idea that can bedated...it is his intellectual property...he isnt being a tool.
I think we should pursue adapting the new electronic disconnect sway bar from the new JK Rubi to work on older TJs and XJs. |
