Stripped XJ Interior Pics

Any of you guys running a stripped interior on your XJ? I stripped the entire interior from mine, carpet, plastic trim, headliner, etc. when I was patching some rust. Since some of the trim pieces broke, I'm debating on just leaving them all out and using some diamond plate or sheet metal and covering the bigger holes in the rear. Anyone got any pics of something like this done?

Yeah, I expected it would, but since it's the dedicated trail rig, no biggie

I too would like to see some interior setups since my Jeep had a foot of water inside recently.

I have had mine 2+ years and finally stripped it about 9 months ago. I ran it completely stripped for about a couple months. Was pretty loud and cold since it was during the winter time. I Herculined it about 6 months ago and love it.

WTF happened to those seats! Looks like you scared someone too badly. ;_:

The Herculiner looks good.

I'll stick with carpet though. :P

These pics were taken while I was doing my boatsides, so nothing is really complete and its in a general state of disorder.

Its a trailer queen, so Im not sure how it is on the street, but on the trail you certainly dont notice any more noise. Ill pretend like I lost significant amounts of weight my stripping the interior, but I doubt it would add up to much, especially with how much I added back in.

If you have an automatic tranny, you will notice a significant amount of heat increase if you take the front carpet out. It was almost unbearable wheeling in the summer, and I ended up putting a front stock carpet back in. Lowered my interior temps by a good 10-20*. IMO I would make the front carpet easily removable, but keep it. Ditch the rest.

Thanks, I was thinking maybe just do a padded rubber liner up front in case the heat from the tranny got bad, haha maybe just screw a couple of thick old floormats to the pan, haha

better than nothing right?

The hot floor is a concern of mine also. I was thinking a layer of header paint and then undercoating over it?

I don't think the header paint would do you any good as far as insulating the floor from the heat. In essence it's still just paint, just made to withstand higher temps. You need something that that will put some insulation between the passenger area and the hot floor pan.

My floors were Herculined after I originally took the carpet out. I got tired of the heat so I tried to use some sound deadener similar to Dynamat all over the tranny tunnel, and installed a vinyl flooring kit from JC Whitney.

It did help the interior temps, but nothing like the factory stuff did.

The header paint will do next to nothing other than hold up to the high heat better (even though the regular spray bomb will work fine). Undercoating isnt really meant for interior heat protection either.
