Steering box upgrade?? XJ

89 cherokee

I need new steering and i was wondering what upgrades exist for the cherokee steering pump/box? Do the stock steering mechanisms have enough strength to withstand any punishment?

Whats up with that Durango Steering box? is that an upgrade as far as strength goes?

Thanks

I run 36's and over the knuckle steering...and I added the Iron Scorpion inner and outer steering box frame plates. I also did a 99 Durango steering box. The box itself is a lot beefier and also has less turns lock-to-lock. (less turns of steering wheel both ways) I noticed a big difference while wheeling in the power it has turning my aired down iroks. 1-ton/over the knuckle steering, steering box frame plates, and the 99 durango V8 steering box is about as beefy as you can get without going full hydro or hydro assist. It works well!! and bolts right up!!! Just make sure you get the 1999 durango V8 steering box (without snow plow option!!!)
