Started with a knock...

I've posted several threads on here about trying to get my XJ running right, etc.

Finally figured out why I had no compression on #2, and it was a cracked head, even though I had no loss of oil or coolant. Then we dug deeper, lifters were bad, and there were actually pieces missing on the cam lobes. Once we got down there, the crank also needed to be sent off.

So here we are, a month later, finally putting it all back together. So much for a simple engine rebuild kit.

When it's all said and done I'll have a brand new engine:

-New head
-New cam
-Crank work
-All bearings
-Oil pump
-Lifters
-Rings, gaskets, seals, etc

And the Jeep

I'll keep this thread updated day by day. I Also have a 3" lift I'm going to be putting on fairly soon.

Well, it was happening bit by bit, and as one thing would come off we'd just send it off, and I didn't want to spend the extra money for it. I'm content with the way the 4.0L runs while healthy. I was looking at 4.2 cranks and all the supplies to go with it, but it wasn't worth the money for me.

Sub'd. Got a knock on my engine and considering a rebuild. How much has it cost you so far?

Assembled head $380
Cam $170
Engine Rebuild Kit from Northern $230
Lifters $60
Bearings $50
Oil Pump $75
Crank Work $80
Labor... Very Good price...

So $1,100 in parts, and less than that in labor because they're good people.

My other option was a rebuilt engine from Jasper, which would have run me 2,800 for the engine, no labor involved.

I'd say I made out clean, plus I had a great time watching the work get done.
