SlimGoaty's Build up

Let me start by saying that I bought my first XJ in 2005, been a paying member ever since (looking back i should have just bought a lifetime membership for 100$ back then). Anyways I have owned 3 XJ's, a ZJ, and also a WJ. Its taken while but I have finally got into a position financially that I can start modding. I'll keep this short for the time being since I have to head to work but I wanted to give you guys a look at what I have done and whats to come.

For years I have reading and researching and drooling over all your guys modified rigs, so here is mine.

Stock but still having fun

The lift arrives!

Gathering a collection

Most important mod I put on all my Rigs

Skip to the end, how it sits today

I'll update this more later today/tonight but I wanted to show it off. I have a long ways to go and lots planned but you get the idea.

As of right now i'm building a roof rack, Napier flares on order, and trying to figure out what route i'm taking with my rusted out rockers.

For the rusted rockers, cut them out and weld in 2x6 for high-clearance rock rails.

Thanks a lot guys. To answer some questions, as for the lift I have the Rubicon Express 5.5 with Drop Brackets (6200 Kit). I'm not sure as to what it actually got me as I didn't measure from the hub to the flare before starting the lift. If anyone is running around with the measurements from hub to a FLARELESS fender I could find out, but most say it gets you about 7 inches. That would make since as I am 11" taller when measured at the bumpers, so you figure 7 inches of suspension lift and going from a 28 Diameter tire to a 35 would give me another 3-3.5 inch lift from the added tire.

As for cutting out all the rockers and welding in square tube, well that was my original plan. Then I started reading more about how guys say you need to reinforce with some sort of brace to the frame and it all started getting a little complicated and ugly. I have heard that if you don't reinforce it you can actually bend the tube enough to keep the door from opening, and I dont want that. Right now I'm torn between going that route, or just removing the rockers, and replacing them with stock replacements and then doing a rocker skid below that.

I'm from the not planning on tying into the frame rail group, but there are many advocates for it as well. It's a really good mod for those who don't want to lose clearance under the rocker height, and also keep the doors away from rocks. I've used them a bunch wheeling and they are solid, used them to hold up the chassis while installing parts etc, but I haven't dropped down from a significant height to to really test that aspect. I plan on doing a pseudo boat side from near the pinch seam to the bottom of the frame rail at some point in time, so really I'm just not tying them in yet. They also really stiffen up the ride and take quite a bit of groaning out of flexing off road.

The lift looks good, I'm running a frankenlift of similar specs.

Nah, but it would look a lot better with a budget boost and some 30 or 31's
