those prices seem WAY to high! I bought my 99 with 130,000 miles on it for $3000. Keep looking. I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for either of them. I always prefer to buy something that is totally stock over something that's been lifted 1) so i know it's done right and 2) so i know it hasn't been abused.
They seem to be higher down here for whatever reason.Ive noticed there cheaper up north and I have been tempted more than once to hop on a plane and buy something up there. I bet people actually wanna buy ZJs up there too.

XJs free range out there, most of them are wild but a few will eat the 10w-30 right out of your hands.

-Dealerships, tons of mom & pop dealerships.

for a dd stock: STOCK WJ's.
they ride wonderfully and are super plush get the 4.7ho and smoke lots of other stock suvs

if I wanted to modify it at all: XJ

wj's have way too many things that are a pain to get around if you lift them at all.
believe me I've helped a friend heavily modify one

Much smaller wheel openings (with not nearly as much room to trim)
That crazy stupid ball joint upper rear control arm deal that makes more than 3" of lift a nightmare
cv joints in the front axle
stupid speed sensor in the front axle... so front axle swaps are almost impossible
goofy tiny front "ball in cup" front driveshaft
electical problems
gas tank that hang down lower than any other jeep before it
ridiculously useless viscous coupled nv249 tcase(in the awd versions)
non of the tcases have speed sensor holes

and about 30 other little dumb things I could go on and on about.

I went and looked at the Green one and I like it but its inspection is out.Did the 94 XJs have any problems that might cause it to fail emissions testing?

if you think you might want a 4x4 now, it's only going to get worse after you buy a 2wd. buyers remorse is no fun.

I know I want a 4x4 not just think I do but I have a trail rig lined up in trade for my ZJ and I have to get another DD before I lose the trail rig.Im really hesitant about getting a 2wd and am thinking I would rather have an older xj thats in worse shape thats a 4x4 but that just doesnt seem logical and at the same time it makes perfect sense. But I guess thats part of the "Jeep Thing"

if you can afford/work it out to have your DD and your trail rig as 2 diff vehicles, that is the way to go. My son's jeep is parked right now and he is bumming rides because he flooded his jeep. He is 16 and bullet proof.

Yeah Im gonna bite the bullet and get the 2wd and then hopefully pick up my trail rig tomorrow. It just makes me sad because on the 2wd I wont have any excuse to lift it or do anything really interesting to it but at least I wont worry about all those wonderful mysterious noises either...................... hopefully.

They are cheaper up north because the bodies/floor pans don't hold up to the road salt very well. Down here the bodies hold up better and the jeeps tend to last longer.

You need to lift the 2wd so you can get taller tires for better fuel milage.
