Guy that rents a storage space where I work has a 1990 XJ 2 door. Wants to sell it to me for $500.
4.0L I-6 4x4.
Steering box welded @ frame to reduce wobble.
Interior / exterior kind of shot. Nothing seat covers, fabric dye / plasti dip can't fix.
Runs. Idles really high. Maybe to keep it running while in park?
I've been told it will most likely fail CA smog if / when I buy it. It does have a new driveshaft.
Rear door struts non-functioning.
Front bumper missing.
Now let me explain.
The fact that it
b) moves under its own power
makes it worth easily double that even in its current condition. Here in southern California, if it has a Jeep nameplate, it's pricey. I'm just concerned about getting this thing to pass smog. Everything else I can fix / try to fix / have friends that can fix / JEEPFORUM TO THE RESCUE!
I went through a nightmare with another car of mine 2 years ago, ended up giving the car away to a family member out of state and don't want to repeat the disaster. I don't have any more info on the XJ at this time, but for $500, would it be worth buying knowing all of this? What other pertinent information would be necessary to make a competent decision?
I plan to DD the thing and take it to the desert/ mountains of southern California on my days off.
