SeaFoam
Everything you ever want to know about seafoam
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/sea-foam-99405/ Just did mine again few nights ago. '00 XJ, 100k -- SmokeScreen City With your engine running, slowly pour about 1/3 bottle into the tb. This takes a few minutes. Shut er down, wait 5 mins or so. Fire her up, enjoy the show. ![]() |

That method looks about the same, but the way I was taught was a little different-
Pour one can in the tank. Take about 1/2-3/4 can and unhook vacume brake boost hose and insert funnel. With Jeep running slowly pour the Seafoam into the Vaccuum hose. Don't let the engine stall, very slowly. Then dump the remaining can in and stall the motor. Let it sit for no less than 15 minutes. If you have a third can, pour a little less than half in the crankcase. Some people are leary of this, but as long as you are almost due for an oil change go ahead. The theory is it breaks up so much junk it can clog cooler lines and the filter. Just change your oil soon after. Start 'er up and enjoy the show. My father-in-law had a 97 S-10 with 4.3L with a stuck ring. This one treatment cured it. We use it regularly in all our vehicles, Jeeps, Caprices, Buicks, Cavaliers, etc.

on a jeep it's different, going through the brake booster line is not as affective as dumping it straight down the throttle body, just unhook the clamp holding your air intake tube to the TB and pour in the seafoam slowly, dosent really matter if you stall it but it is helpfull to have a friend in the car so they can rev the motor if it's about to die. Turn the car off and let sit for 10 min, start it up and drive it like you stole it for a mile or two. Pour 1/2 in the TB, and 1/2 in the gas tank...or 1/3 in the TB, 1/3 in the gas tank, and 1/3 in the engine oil.
And there honestly is no need to use 3 cans of seafoam on a car...just a waste of money, one can every 3000 miles is more than enough. If you do do it through the brake booster line then you will not get any smoke out of the exhaust, not sure why. And if my computer wasnt being a ***** on me then i would give you a pic of where the brake booster and the TB and all that stuff are...but i cant |

ill see if i have a pic... well... this is all i found it might help ![]() you see the hose to the right of where the intake meets the injector, it arces up the down. -i poured 1/2 a can inta a small clear class that i didnt need. and stuck the hose in it (pop it off where it hits the brake booster) and let it suck it up by its self keeping it alive at the same time. when you see it suck up the last bit of it shut her off and wait, put the hose back too. -worked for me, if anyone knows something i dont about this that is bad let me know. no pix of smoke it was dark

I poked a hole in the cap with a nail and turned it upside down over the TB, takes a wile but I didn't have to worry about poring too much too fast.

I have done it down the TB and through the brake booster and i never get smoke through the Brake booster. The guy up there said he got smoke but he didnt say how much. I got a **** load of smoke out of the TB and only a puff or two from sucking it through the Brake booster line. |

I've been reading these Seafoam threads for a while and decided to finally give it a try yesterday afternoon. Being the skeptic that I am I was REALLY nervous to be pouring that stuff into my engine while it was running. I tried the brake vacuum hose BTW. My hand was shaking as I was pouring it into the funnel and listening to the engine choke and sputter. As soon as I poured the last drop into the funnel I quickly reattached the hose to the brake booster and it instantly stalled the engine. I nervously waited the recommended 5 min. and then turned the key over. My XJ fired right up. I sat in the driveway and waited for the smoke but wasn't getting any so I decided to take it for a drive around the block. When I put it into drive and jammed the accelerator it kind of hesitated, made a weird rattling noise, and poof, smoke! A big 'ol cloud of blue smoke popped out and the engine roared to life. I ripped around my neighborhood, fogging for skeeters until it stopped. Anyway, it may be my imagination, but it does seem to idle a wee bit lower and quieter. I also think it doesn't shift as hard when I drive. I noticed on some steep incline hills that it doesn't downshift as hard when I hit the gas to keep the speed up. It just feels smoother. Not sure exactly what it does, but so far I'm a believer and I think Seafoam will be a part of my annual tune-ups from now on.
