Replacement Starter brand

OK, so where is best to buy a replacement starter? I see them on Amazon/Ebay for $50 for a 1 year warranty or should I go to ChinaZone for a $150 lifetime warranty. Thoughts?

I'd just get the one from the local parts store that way if you "need" to use the warranty at least the retailer is local and not on ebay. my .02 YMMV

Get one from advanced or napa NEVER buy anything electric from autozone

To be honest never by anything but plus or pads at an AutoZone. Ok maybe a lightbulb.

Cheap parts are cheap for a reason.

The premium starters at NAPA are properly rebuilt, most of the rest, including "Lifetime Warranty" crap, are not worth the time they take to install.

I got mine at Napa for $65.

That said, what's wrong with your starter? covered in oil from a leaking oil filter adapter seal? If so, just disassemble the starter, clean it with BrakeKleen and put it back together. These starters are idiot-proof.

Yeah, my XJ every other time will crank real slow then spark. I had the battery tested and such and I'm guessing it is the starter. It is covered in oil also. Is it worth cleaning?

And, fix your oil leak..............

JBlue 11-05-2013 07:53 AM

What's better to replace the starter with, Napa brand new or Napa premium rebuild? Of if there is another brand out there, let me know.

JBlue 11-05-2013 03:15 PM

bump for the evening crowd, thanks.

I've usually just disassembled them and cleaned all the oil out that came from the leaking oil filter adapter seal. Put them back together and it worked.
