red top pooped out on me

Well, just when I thought I was wrapping up things on the Jeep and possibly getting close to being able to get it inspected. . . This happens. . .

Optima told me to go **** myself and I don't have the cash for a new one. SO, what cheap battery can I toss i n this thing and at least get a year or two out of it? I want to slap in the biggest, cheapest brick I can. I'm not using the standard battery box, so I'm not limited to that size. I'm not running any lights or other accessories, but I do have a winch. Hopefully I won't have to use it too much, but the battery needs to perform when I do need it.

Soooooo. . . Thoughts?

Wal-Mart EverStart Maxx. Never had a problem with any of them. Look for the "JCI" or "Johnson Controls" label on it as I think some may be made by Exide now. Johnson seems to build a better battery.
And there's really no such thing as a cost conscious battery anymore as far as I'm concerned.

I have three. The XJ is still running the whatever brand battery that was in it when I bought it. They have a battery application module at the store. Since you're not limited on size I reckon you could go with the one like I put in my Hemi Durango if you wanted more CCA than what one for an XJ would have. Or look at one spec'ed for a 2007 or so GM HD truck.

When your ready to spend money on a good battery go with an exide agm battery. Thing cranks so fast! Opima sucks .

Which one do you have? It doesn't look like they are crazy expensive.

Looks like I AM restricted in the physical size. I forgot about my ballistic fab battery box. So, unless I want to buy a new one I need to stick to the same size as my red top.

Right now I'm leaning towards a Napa $65 special.

I have a different one then stock . I believe is close to same size but has side terminals ( chevy style ) also AutoZone batteries aren't bad I have one in my ranger put it in about 5 yrs ago. Listen to the radio all day and starts fine. I can get you a part number on the exide if you want .

Sure, I'd appreciate a part number.

I might just pick up one from Auto Zone. I have to go back there to get my optima anyway. That's who tested it for me yesterday.

I've had to jump mine a bunch, but I figured that was just because it would sit for months at a time without being started. Yesterday I jumped it and tried to again with no luck, so I put it on my charger. It never charged and the one corner got REALLY hot.

Did you use an AGM charger on it? Optimas are pretty easy to destroy with a regular charger if it puts out over 10A.
Also if they get down too low you have to put another battery in parallel with an Optima to charge it.
