Hey I'm looking too regear my hp dana 30 / C8.25 from stock gears too 4.88s

There's only a few "off road" specific shops in my city. Buddy quoted me $2,200 parts and labour for 4.56's which I think is extremely high. Also said he was unsure if they even made 88's for my axels, which leads me too beleive he doesn't have a clue.

So then I went on too ask how much for just labor/install. Which he replyed "8hrs per axel"?? I've never done gears but I don't think it would take 8hrs too do one end.

What I'm asking is do you think 8hrs a side is step? I do?!

I know there was a place out in eastern PA doing axles (front and rear) for like a total of 950 or something. I believe 2,200 is overkill.

A fair price should be below $1500 parts/labor. they do make 4.88s for your axles however you may need a new carrier.

Ya I figured! Thanks for the heads up. Imma just roll stock gears until I can find something more reasonable!

Thanks again!!

PS my cherokee has under 100k miles do you think I can get away without the master rebuild kit. Or should I just get the kit?
