I use kind of a ghetto way, but works great. Bottle jack to push axle forward, jack under the wrench to keep caster in line. Pictures make more sense:

I like that way, Vegas. I've always done it with ratchet straps or comealongs but it's such a pain. I very well may try your way

I didn't realize how long it has been since I've updated this. I've been hung up with work and finals but have stilled gotten some work done.

I installed IRO Double Shear track bar and HD steering box spacer with grade 8 hardware
replaced a tirerod end and changed some fluids n junk
ALSO.. I was having issues with the jeep not wanted to start in Park so I decided to rebuild the NSS, and in the process of all that I misplaced one of the tiny springs.. after hours of searching for it I gave up and called the dealer.. $400.. no ****ing way. So I hit the internets and found one on carparts.com for $35 and payed $26 for next day air. needless to say that was a waaay better option.
And rough country is supposed to be sending me flex joint rebuilds.
Now, I'm waiting to save the money to buy heims to build cross over steering and I'm waiting for this to come out of powdercoat...

i like this rig! so how do you like the 8.8 vs the 8.25?? i am tossed between swapping out for the 8.8 for the 8.25 but honestly would i be better off re-gearing the 8.25 and throwing a locker into it? whats your opinion on that please! everything else looks great, another thing im curious about is the LP30 Guts going into the HP30 do these parts directly swap out? and if so what are the main swaps i should look for? axle shafts, calipers/brakes, knuckles?
Thanks again!

8.25
It cost the same to regear and you will be set up to the point if needing 8 lugs. Ibjeeping beats his
I beat mine. 34s and lots of skinny pedal! In wet muddy rocks its still holding up quite well! I may go bigger on it.

If you were junkyard swapping to 4:10s I'd say go for it! But if your regearing deeper I'd say stay 8.25 get some chromos if you really feel you need em. I'm on the stock 29 spline shafts and am not worried.

Hp and lp 30s use the same shafts brakes and unit bearings I do believe.

Yeah, Luke hit it pretty head on. The 8.25 and 8.8 are pretty close in strength, so if that's all you're looking to upgrade, there's no need. The reason I swapped is because I got a good deal on the 8.8 with 4.10 and discs and even with cheap gears and junkyard parts, it would have cost me more to do everything I wanted to do to the 8.25.
And the original plan with the hp30 was just to run the 1 piece shafts I pulled from the lp30 to delete the CAD. But, because I got a hp30 with stock 4.10's that came out of a 4-cylinder, the brake calipers were smaller. And because I didn't want to sacrifice any stopping power, swapping the knuckles was easy. So yeah, XJ or TJ non-cad 1 piece shafts, and 6 cylinder knuckles/ calipers and such. I don't remember what year they changed from 2-piece to 1-piece knuckles, but that's also a bit of a strength upgrade.

cool! thanks for the info I ask because I have the 27spline 8.25 and i either want the 29 spline or upgrade to something close to that. i may just swap the guts out with the 29 splined stuff not sure if thats worth all of it or not, i like my 8.25, i just want rear disc, locker, and strong enough shafts to run 33's on. thats about it.

Here's the deal broksi
To do a 29 spline conversion you need the carrier spiders and shafts
Or you can if your doing a full case locker or lsd do it with a 29 spline locker and the shafts.
Disk are easy just do a zj swap.

I don't think you'll be able to hurt a 29 spline in 33s! I've tried!

No worries camfam. The Detroit is a full case locker, and the Spartan is a lunch box. You'll want to do full case if doing a 29-spline upgrade. Otherwise you'll still need to buy carrier/spider/etc. All the info is out there though. I literally got all the info for the swaps I did from forums besides some previous experience. Good luck though!

thanks man! I think full case locker is ideal but i do lots of street driving as well. but only about 15 miles a day in it. so a full locker is definitely in the mix sometime soon. thanks for these ideas guys!
