rallybro 2001 XJ Build

So I've been browsing JF for a few years now, watching builds, stealing ideas, and gathering information but I figured it was finally time to put my Jeep on here. Unimportant background about me upon starting this: 18 year old high school senior, living in central Oregon.

OK! When I got the jeep it was bone stock other than a front towing package (PO towed it behind their RV) and it had 96xxx miles.

Came with:
-lp30 3.54
-C8.25 3.55 w/ lsd
-Upcountry package

Being a teenager I painted the wheels..

Ran it like this for awhile and did some minor wheeling

As my tires wore down, a friend of mine had a set of 31's that he sold me dirt cheep, so I tested my luck fitting those (I didn't know I had upcountry yet)

Up to this point, I didn't have much interest in building it in anyway, just wanted to spend all my money on my mountain bike. But as I searched forums for little bits on information, I quickly learned how much potential my little jeep had. So I found a cheap way to lift it 3 inches with coils and aals. As well as some Soft 8's, and trimmed the bumper

Now onto the current set up..

Sweet pictures so far, bro. Good deal on the UpCountry

As money started slowing seeping into my wallet, it was quickly drained into the jeep.

Here are pictures I took today of everything on the jeep at this point:

RE 4.5" Coils, RC Discos, RC N2.0 Shocks, and RC X-Flex adj. Lowers

Hankook Dynapro A/T 31x10.5

Me and a buddy built a light bar replicating Detour's Brow Bar. Instead of the $70 he charges, it cost about $12 and mounted the same way. :2thumbsup: I threw some IPF 968's on there and put 55w 3000k's in those

and the backing plates

I mounted the ballasts behind the grille next to the radiator

Next was a Flowmaster Super 44 muffler and tail pipe from Performancecurve.com

All in all, this is how she sits now.

I'm pleased with everything so far, just have SOOOO much more on my list..

First up correcting this:

Placed some orders last night!

RE 1463 3.5" Leaf Packs
Rustys .75 Extended shackle
RC N2.0 rear shocks

Only reason I ordered something from Rustys is because they were the only other company besides RE that makes a .75 greasable lift shackle and rustys was $30 cheaper

Thanks for the order! Enjoy them!

Looks great. Stupid question but what did you buy to do the light bar? What kind of metal? Prebent? Welding? I dont know Im retarded

rallybro 04-03-2013 05:52 PM

If memory serves it was 40" of 1 1/4" di. by 3/8" thick tube.
But then we measured how wide we wanted the top flat part to be, then bent to 40* on each side. Cut the ends off at the right length and angle, then welded on the end caps which had been drilled out and had 2 bolts welded to what would be the inside of the cap, then cut out and welded on light tabs. All MIG welded.

It's nice to have access to this

Biggest reason I haven't left my current job. I can't go back to laying under **** in a driveway, frustrates the hell out of me now.

Yeah, unfortunately this is my last few months in high school, so look like I'm on the ground all summer unless my shop teacher still lets me use the shop next year.. Fingers crossed

Being that it took so long for me to start this thread and become an active member or JF, I can justify to myself all of the small, frequent updates. That being said - parts started coming in.

A problem I cannot seem to fix is my track bar. When I lifted it initially, I drilled a new hole for it and welded the old hole shut. The stock bolt wallowed our so I put a 10mm bolt through and now there is enough play that it feels as though it's making my steering sloppy. And it's making a pop when I drive - which is concerning.

I guess my question is; what is the best solution to this? Weld another piece of metal on the axle? New track bar? Burn the jeep down?

It seems as though the bolt is secure through the hole, but the sleeve inside the bushing on the track bar might be the issue. Mind also that I replaced the track bar about a year ago because the stock TRE was bad.

cactus_jack 04-08-2013 07:14 PM

I vote new track bar. Especially if your steering angles are off. If you've wallowed out the hole in the bracket you can weld some grade 8 washers over the holes to make it round again and ready to accept a new track bar.
