quiet exhaust

Hey guys just curious on your opinions on a quieter exhaust system. Right now my Xj has a cherry bomb muffler (not glasspack) with high flow cat and its ran through the cross member (tummy tuck) I'd like to keep that same pipe because it looks good with the 6.5" lift but i figured i would just cut the cat and muffler off for something a lot quieter. With a baby on the way and no carpet. Its extremely too loud. I dont wanna just go to auto zone and grab junk off their shelves either. It was either this or sell the jeep! And that's not happening!

did you just say you're going to cut the cat and muffler off to make it quieter? or did i misunderstand your post?

My cat is bad anyways. Its all welded on from po. Sorry I wasn't specific. I plan on replacing both

A Dynomax muffler is fairly quiet and usually cheap.

+1 for the Dynomax Super Turbo

You can also find cats pretty cheap on performance-curve.com.

I got a Walker Quiet Flow. It was a little louder than the stock, but not too bad.

Those high flow cheap cats tend to be louder because they are made from thinner steel.

Yeah you arnt kidding! I went to replace my downstream and it snapped right off!
Walker quiet flow has good reviews, I'm just hitting my head on why its 45$ more than their soundfx or even thrush. If its worth it then I'll jump on it

I believe the Quiet flow is stainless steel.

I had a walker muffler once then it seemed to get louder. When I had it replaced they cut it open and all the internals had blown out from not being welded good enuf. So I bought a turbo muffler that was quieter. An OE cat will quiet things up also.

Honestly my Thrushed welded with a short tailpipe and factory cat is inaudible inside the cabin, I can hear my fan clutch more than it haha.

I will however second a Dynomax super turbo. I was going to go that route, but wanted a little beefier design because rocks are the whole reason I had to replace the exhaust to begin with.

I had a Dynomax Super Turbo on my 87 XJ it was barley louder then stock at Idle and fairly quiet while running the crap out of it

To be honest a baby will fall asleep in a car in a matter of minutes My 2 year old son will fall asleep within 5 minutes of being in my XJ with a Header , 2.5" downpipe, 2.5" Hi Flow cat, 2.5" Magnaflow magnapack muffler, and 2.5" tailpipe

He said he's cutting them off to replace them with a quieter option, not eliminate them.
