Quick question

I've been wanting to paint my my intake( I think that's what it's called) the whole shell that covers the air filter, if I took it off and painted it would it hurt anything?

What grain sand paper would be best to use to sand mine down

the only thing i can come up with is ' high heat' paint, other than it should anything
