Still kinda mad I didn't get to fix the DS this weekend, but on the plus side I picked up a pair of ZJ leather seats in great condition for under $50 and an 8.8 with 410 gears and LSD for $150 pulled.

I was picking the axle up anyway, but the Jeep needs tires to pass an inspection to I figure as long as it's going to be off the road for a little while I might as well just swap the axle instead of fixing the other one.

It comes with a truss for a comparable price as other kits that didn't.

Remind me - do the ZJ seats bolt in or is there some modification required?

I'd like to find a 4.10 r&p for my C8.25 as I can get the D30 4.10 for free.

Good luck with all the swappin you'll be doing.

96+ they bolt directly onto XJ bases. Pre 96 you have to do some light modification. You can basically cut and drill some flat bar and bolt it to the bases and then bolt the seats to it.

All the 8.8 stuff came in today, still need calipers and a DS though. Stuck at home with the god damn flu so I won't be getting anything done on it this weekend unfortunately.

I thought I remembered they bolted in for the newer models. They sit up a bit taller than the XJ seats IIRC which is something I'd like. I'm not short but the stockers seem to sit too low to me.

Having the flu sucks donkey cork! I've been lucky so far.

I said they bolt in for 96+. I'm 6'3" and even the old seats are low for me which is rare in any vehicle.

Yeah, I usually am. Second time I've ever had it.

^^^Yeah - I know what u said. I was agreeing that I thought what u said was what I remembered. Glad I'm not the only one that thinks the stock seats are too low - I'm 6'1" and feel like a midget when I sit in my XJ.

Anyway - anxious to see how the 8.8 swap goes.

This build is moving right along. The 8.8 catches my eye, but the ZJ seat swap is on my list of action items. I'm interested to hear how much of a project it turns out to be.
I went ahead and cleaned up some of the random posts while I was here since I know how XJ guys like to start yakking and go off on a tangent.

Yeah, it's moved A LOT faster than I thought it would. Learning to weld has probably been the biggest time and money saver out of anything I've ever learned as far as Jeeps go.

The 8.8 is turning out to much a lot more expensive than I initially thought it would be since I picked the axle up so cheap, but oh well. It'll be well worth it. Still trying to figure it out as far as getting it done. I only have shop access at work for 8 hours on Saturdays and it's not enough time to get everything welded on and get it bedlined so I can leave it in, it won't dry fast enough and I can't leave the Jeep at work without a rear axle in it til the next weekend. I think I'm gonna have to just measure and weld everything in place and hope for the best and actually swap it in next weekend. Still lost on the brake lines too.

As for the seats, 96+ they bolt directly to XJ seat frames. For me I just have to weld some flat bar across the bottoms and drill 4 holes so it'll bolt on to my base. Really nothing to it at all. I still want to find some nice WJ heated seats to put in, but the JY here only had 2 WJs and both were cloth and gross. I'll end up swapping the ZJ seats into my pickup since 96+ XJ seats are almost a direct swap into first gen Dakotas.
