Today was not a good day. Went to take off at a light and accidentally my whole drive shaft.

I know, that's immediately what I thought of. It's his fault.
Need to figure out what caused it, hopefully I didn't grenade the axle too. Axle yoke is broken as hell. Sounded like a damn bomb going off, blew so hard from a standstill that it blew my shifter bezel out and my rear view mirror off the windshield.

Wouldn't have been so bad but I was only about a mile from home. I'd have just pulled the shaft and ran home in 4 hi but I was in the middle of a turn lane on the main road at rush hour. Didn't wanna risk some moron rear ending me while I was under the Jeep.

It's not a big deal to fix, it'll get done this weekend probably. I thought about an 8.8, but by the time I get it, weld on new mounts, new hardware, regear, and new brakes it's over $1000 which I can't afford right now. Esp when I can put a new yoke in and u joint on the driveshaft for under $300, assuming that's all that's wrong.

No, it's everything. No individual part is all that expensive, but combined it's not affordable at once. I'd been considering building an 8.8 slowly and swapping it once I had it totally rebuilt, geared, and locked but for the same work and a bit more I could do full width axles so I haven't really decided which yet.

In the end ... You really can't beat going with the 60s for so many reasons.

Time to upgrade the rear DS.
Seriously though that sucks, although I agree with you, building things up over time is really easy because no single part is expensive if you are doing the work yourself.
