Project Elegant Elephant

I figured I'd start a thread for my new xj now that I have some 'decent' pictures. It's an 89, Renix 4.0, auto. I bought it with a 3" crusty's lift, 30x9.5 MT's and a lot of hack-job **** the previous owner had done to the poor thing. Plans are another ~1" of lift, a non-disco hp30 up front, locked xj D44 rear, some fairly high rocker cutouts, skids etc, for now. Right now it needs some patchwork on the floors, seatbelts and doors to get a sticker, then I'll have some real wheeling pic's. Enough talk, here's some of how it sits now.

Fresh out of the garage after doing a head gasket that didn't need to be done, thanks josh...

Posin'

Ballin' out with squashman and his zj

And the new DOT approved Creeper Seats, soon available from Summit, Jegs, etc

Got a little time after work to start on the driver's side floor.

The hole:

The patch panel:

Test fit:

The holes for the seat line up, and it fits well so far. I need to clean up everything underneath, then get some all-thread to suck it down, so I can hammer out any little gaps. Does anyone have suggestions for cleaning off all the rubber undercoating? It's coming off with a grinding wheel/wire wheel combo, but the **** I'm breathing in is killing me. I'll get back to it Thursday and hopefully have it at least tacked in.

And here's a shot of the top-secret TTG HQ, the GPS coordinates are withheld for security reasons.

Dude, SOLID looking patch panel. Aren't you glad you got the practice run on the Rhino?

Oh, and when the steel comes in, we might have to do something like this with mine, looks like 2x6. This is the flat tan ZJ I was telling you about, except last time I saw it, it was on 35" Baja Claws.

Spent Saturday with squashman and the wives at boulder bash in NH, which was a good time, I should have pictures tonight. Unfortunately that meant no work on the jeep, but I got a little time this afternoon, so I focused on getting the driver's floor tacked in. I found a knotted wire wheel, instead of a wire cup/brush, worked best for removing all the seam sealer. Here's a few shots of the progress.

Final fit before I started to tack it in. The tek-screws wont be staying, they were just there to suck in any little gaps, same with the all-thread/fender washers.

All tacked in, ready to be fully welded after I clean up the underside.

And finally with a seat bolted in it.

On another note, I've been considering a mini-spool for the D44 I'll be swapping in the rear. Does anyone have any experience with one? How miserable is it on the street? I figure I'll keep the spiders so I can swap them back in just in case the jeep has to pull DD duties for a while. Also, I got the frame stiffeners ordered from T&T, and the 2x6 ordered for the sliders. All that should be in this week, and I should be free all this weekend and nights next week so there will hopefully be some good progress.
