Project Daily Driver

The other day I bought a 2001 Jeep Cherokee to replace the Daily Driver duties of my ZJ. It has 197k on it, but has 0 rust and runs amazing.

My Plans:
  • 2inch BB
  • Soft 8s
  • 31's M/T
  • Bushwacker Flat Flares
  • Leather Interior.
  • Roof Rack
  • Fogs
  • Front and Rear Bumpers
  • Paint

Well, This should be a fun little ride. I will post upgrades, Maintenance, and wheeling trips. Now for the pictures.

I like soft 8s. I have to repaint it. Not sure what ill do color wise. Might end up repainting it the same color. (The front driver side and header are slightly different color, and the rear hatch has a lot of scratches. So complete paint job is in order)

It will see a little wheeling. Nothing crazy. Wont be going in 7 foot deep swamps or anything like that. My brother is an auto body tech. So he will do the painting. It will most likely be the same color it is now, just no more faded stops, scratched hatch, or discolored fenders.

Oil pump is failing. Was hoping it would just be dirty oil. So I went with the ever so loved..

Did an oil change. Went with Rotella T 15W40 Motor Oil and a Mopar filter.

Also ordered a new sensor, that comes in Monday. Hopefully that is the issue.

My Cherokee and the gfs Cherokee.

I must say, it drives surprisingly well in the snow.

Oil pressure kept dropping to 0 when I would stop. So I replaced the Oil Sending Unit. looks like that fixed the issue... I hope...

Since it is an '01, check your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to be sure. Also check your 0331 head for cracks. At 197k miles it could've had the head crack along the way, and some coolant got into the oil messing with the bearings before the head got replaced. Not saying this definitely happened, but it is worth checking. If the pressure checks out good and your head is not cracked then you are good to go.

Great looking Cherokee by the way, I love the color.

Today I put my Yellow Top in. Since my ZJ isnt moving, I dont think it will mind. :D Also moved my tools over from the ZJ.

After Christmas My gf and I will be getting a place of our own. So February I will be buying mods for the XJ... or if I find any good deals in between now and then.

Heard from a bunch of fellow XJ owners about this. They all have had good luck with it. So I figured I would give it a try. Shell Rotella 15W-40

Thanks. So far its holding pressure. The real test will be when I drive it to Philly on Thursday.

The usual signs of a cracked head are milky white stuff on the oil fill cap, mysterious loss of coolant (filling the coolant bottle often) or milky oil on the dipstick.

It was probably the sensor though, since its a common failure. I've replaced 4 of them on XJs I've been around. Never hurts to double check though.
