Paint Schemes and Trim Idea help

Ok, So I love the way the black and chrome looks on an old classic muscle car. I'm painting my cherokee laredo in a couple of months and I have the chrome trim package. I have two options, pay for all new black trim pieces - or find a good color to go with chrome and save money. I think the black will look pretty bad *** but i'm not 100% sure. Does anyone have any pictures or ideas that could help me out? thanks

This is the official Chrome Haters Club of America forum. I doubt many will give you colors that go with chrome.

IMHO black, red, white all go well with chrome trim. I like a little bit of chrome... but a little goes a LONG way.

laredos came in black. so a black laredo with chrome look more or less stock. personally i like my chrome as well. im not a real fan of the 84-96 cherokees with black paint and black accents. i like contrast and the chrome does a good job IMO

My 90 has a mix-n-match of chrome trim and blacked out trim.

I guess I'm still lost in the 70's because I like chrome bits on vehicles. I think the body-colored grille and everything else either body color or blacked on the newer XJ's makes them look like a plastic snap together toy. I know they're not, but that's what they end up looking like to me. I think the chrome gives a definitive "steel" texture that brings out the boxy, tough look of an XJ.

On a WJ? No chrome. They're supposed to look like soccer mom Jeeps. Ours aren't. A little chrome here and there is required on something as plain-Jane as our XJ's.

As for paint color? Black Cherry looks awesome with chrome accenting it. So does Burnt Orange.

Red is also nice with the chrome trim.

I will whole heartedly admit that if you don't like chrome, then completely blacked out 100% looks absolutely outstanding. But I would imagine it would take a pretty expensive paint job and some serious cash on everything else to look this good. But, oh man does it look good!!!

I don't really get the whole PAINT EVERYTHING INCLUDING YOUR WHEELS BLACK thing... It looks OK on some rigs but many look pretty bad to me. It's funny in the photoshop request thread to see all of the requests for paint my _____ black. It's not like we haven't seen every frikkin black combination in here a thousand times. I guess people just have zero imagination.

I'm keeping a little chrome on my rig out of defiance. Hell, I'm not even gonna paint my wheels black. Oh, the humanity. I say do what YOU like and forget about the fanboy responses.

I have a lot of respect for everybody's rigs... just don't think all of them need to be just alike to be cool.

Then you're gonna love mine when I'm done...

Trust me when I say there never has been one that looked like mine will. I think I lucked out and got an unusual color to begin with (deep metallic purple), and I'm taking it a rather different approach from there.
