One Tough XJ!

So, my son decides he wants to back into his girlfriends car yesterday! To my surprise when I walk out of the house and see that there is barely a scratch on his Jeep and then I walk around his girlfriends car and my stomach sank Last year a girl backed into him in the school parking lot and you could not even tell where she hit his front bumper and it tore her back bumper to pieces. Our XJ's are apparently tough little guys!

That's what I am hoping for, but I don't think I'll get that lucky!

He's been wanting an after market bumper for a while and now I am glad he didn't have one! I guess Chevy must save all of that high strength steel for their trucks.

My uncle has a 15 Silverado 2500 with a Duramax in it. Paid like $60k for it and before his first oil change he ran the bed into my stock front bumper on the MJ as he was backing up/turning and ripped the whole side of his bed open. All he did to my MJ was knock the end cap off the bumper lol

Starting to look like Jeep wins over Chevy in a smash up contest

Yeah, but Jeep metal bumper loses to Santa Fe plastic bumper... and the fender, end cap, side marker, grill, fender on the other side. Her already damaged bumper didn't take any new damage. At least it was a cheap home repair for me.

Pretty much every newer car built in the last 10 years will crumple like tissue paper even at low speed. Government safety regulations require them to so the vehicle takes more of the force of an impact than the person driving.

This thread reminded me of my wife's "wreck"
She pulled out to turn right and at the last second saw a car coming and stopped.
The other driver locked up her brakes and they kissed front bumpers putting a scuff on my wife's endcap you could cover with 3 fingers.

She sued us for $50,000 and eventually won $3,500 for her "injuries". :/

Reminded me of this:

My wife straight up backed her 98 Ranger into a brand new nissan frontier a few months back. Ranger's rear driver's corner to the nissan's front driver's. The frontiers bumper (the plastic part, they call it a fascia now don't they), head light, metal fender and header panel all got jacked up. Hood, too a little. The whole corner folded in. It was like a 5mph or less thing coming out of a driveway.

The wife's ranger had a broken taillight. Couldn't even find a scratch otherwise.
