Xj new 01 XJ questions

I just picked up a 01 XJ sport w 7k miles from a relative. It's basically completely new inside and out and seems to ride very well. The engine seems a little loud, but my last XJs were an 89 and a 94 then had a TJ for a few years, so it's hard to have a frame of reference.

Any suggestions on where to start? I have a check engine light on (guessing it's probably o2 sensor). I plan to get the oil changed this week and get a general lookover by the mechanic.

It's going to be a rarely used vehicle for me (maybe a dozen days a year) as I'm a bike commuter. Any other suggestions other than just getting it on the highway once a month for a few miles?

Anything this model & year are known for problem-wise?

I would bring it to Checker/Advanced/Napa to get that CEL diagnosed since it is free there.

Is that a typo or does it really only have 7k or did you mean 70k? A good tune up, plugs/wires/all fluids changed would be a good start. Got any pics of the new ride?

No wires on an 01.

The engine could seem louder because of a cracked exhaust manifold, which all XJs are susceptible to.

The only "problem" with an 01 is the crack prone 0331 cylinder head. But there are lots of people who've had no problems. Just something to keep an eye out for.

Just as a precaution, I would change all fluids. Granted that it's got only 7k on it, but still. Diffs, tranny, tcase, engine, coolant. It'll make for less headaches down the road.

If the rig was only driven 7k miles, then I doubt that the exhaust manifold is cracked. It could just be running a little rough since it wasn't driven often. Less than 1,000 miles a year.....

It's not a typo. It has 7,100 miles on it and it appears to be in spectacular condition inside and out, though it smells a little of cigarettes. Wish it was a 5 speed, but beggars can't be choosers.
I'll try and get some pics this weekend.

Thanks for all the good suggestions.

And I thought I was doing good with just hitting 81,000 miles last week on my '01. Reminds me of back in 1980 when I was talking to a guy who had a service station. (remember those?) He told me that the little old lady on my block who had a 1967 Chevelle had just hit 5000 miles on it. I really wanted that car.

1st one- 1989 Cherokee Laredo. 12 great years
2nd one- 2001 Cherokee Limited. Got it before they were gone.

You've got a red x there.

I thought my dad's old '97 Cherokee police unit with 60,000 miles was low, shesh!
