My 97 Dog Car Build

Hey, My name is Darryl and Im from the UK. Cant seem to find many XJ enthusiasts over here and this forum is a good place to see what others are doing to their XJ's.

Since being a kid, I have always loved the XJ. I finally bought my first Jeep in April 2011 when I got a black lab. This is a daily driver so I don't want to make a full on monster out of this, but Im pretty sure that the Jeep has never seen any mud before. Since i have had my 97 for a few months now, i ought to make a build thread.

Specs of (Charlie) the Cherokee:
1997 Jeep XJ Limited
4.0L
Goodyear tyres 225/70R15 with hardly any tread at all
Stock Radio and Speakers
Grey Leather Interior
71,000 miles on the clock
Purchased for 1,350
Full service history

Bringing Charlie home
\

My Plans:
2 inch lift at the back as the current ones are sagging like hell.
Then a 2 inch budget lift at the front.
Some bigger all terrain tyres
Refurbish the alloys.
Upgrade the sound system.
Magnaflow exhaust (help me on this, I'm rather confused on what to do)
Clear blinkers/side markers
Find new front seats, they're pretty cracked.
Full respray in Black.
Hopefully a few more things

Taking Charlie to some mud for the first time. And yes that was a Land Rover that had to pull us out in the end. Can I blame the tyres with little tread??

The original front speakers had blown so I installed some Alpine speakers for 30 each

I had to cut the wires as the original plug didn't fit in.

It was a bit of good luck finding one with only 71,000 miles, everything else was sitting around 150,000. That mud was a NIGHTMARE! Living in a land where everyone British loves their Land Rovers, it is quite hard to find some people to have fun with in our Jeeps.

Here are a few others of us having a fun time. (Ours is the tiny one next to the white truck)

Got some new tyres put on today to help me get out of those sticky situations. As this will be a DD, I went for some A/T tyres instead of Mud. A bit bigger than the original's. This has given be around a 1 inch lift already which is great!

it was time to take the wheels of again to get them refurbished at Lepsons for 212 + VAT. This was by far the worst bit on car as all the paint and lacquer was peeling off. Pretty ugly. They'll be back in a couple of days.

Charlie looking Sad being left around the side of the house.

I've just come across this - that's a very nice XJ, and it's nice to see others in the UK that like them so much.

I'm 19 myself with a similar XJ as my first car, and absolutely adore it!

Have you done much else to yours now?
