Had to teach a class up at the range today. I figured I would take my XJ the 15 miles into the foothills to see how she would do. Loved how all my gear fit neatly in the rear cargo area. After my students were done shootin i decided to test out my 4x4 and it worked flawlessly. Drove home with a big grin on my face.

My rig is a second or third car. With 355 gears and 31s it has barely acceptable performance on the street. Mines a 4 speed and with 31s overdrive would be a gear never used. If I were to drive mine everyday I would be very tempted to go with 235/75-15 tires. The little sticker in my glove-box says you can use 195-225/75 15 tires. At this very moment I have 205/65-15s, they are very temporary and are about equal to 195/75s. Very snappy.
The fan I earlier suggested, or one very similar, should be available for around $200. I built my rig close to 10 yrs ago and I'm sure it cost me less.

While a little underpowered, I love my TBI 2.5L. Very simple fuel injection. Uncomplicated and beats the heck out of a carb.

i run 33s, and stock gearing on my xj as a DD, its not that bad, just a bit slow, but tolerable, 35s would be unbearable.

Thank you very much, she will look 100% better with new paint. What size lift did you have on your xjs with the 33's?
Does anybody know if they sell the rubber inserts that hold the torx screws in place on the roof? They hold the tracks down for the factory roof rack. I want to get my roof all sealed up before winter.

My new tailpipe and flowmaster super 44 are in. Direct bolt on cat was $180 because of the dirty hippies that are running Sacramento have stupid strict emission laws. My carbon footprint is zero, because i drive everywhere. Cat should be in monday so I should have everything put back together monday night and i can finally take her in to get smogged.

Gutted my interior and tossed my carpet and found out my floor had more holes in it than the plot from the new Indiana Jones movie.
Going to have patches welded in and im going to bedline the entire floor.
Good news though, my cat and muffler and tailpipe are installed and sounds like a beast

bad news is there is still an exhaust leak in my engine bay so i ordered a new exhaust manifold and gasket should be in Thursday.
And i put up my little reminder from my 05 Colorado in my garage so i never dump my clutch at a green light for a burnout....

Looking at your undercarriage just goes to show what a ****ty design these XJ's are and proof that they literally rot from the "inside out".
However, it's AWESOME that you have so much good metal left!

Adam if you decide to do 33's with the 2.5l I'd suggest re-gearing to at least 4.56's or 4.88's. NOW if you're going to do the 4.0 swap then you'd be set with 4.10 stock gears in those axles. Just my 2 cents though...I hate my WJ with 31's/4.0/3.55 combo and want to re-gear to 4.56.
