My '01 Build Thread

Since I have had my '01 for a few months now I guess I should make a build thread.

So my '99 was totaled by a PT cruiser who wasn't paying attention and pulled out in front of me while I was going 40mph :brickwall

So after a few weeks of looking I found my current jeep, a 2001 patriot blue Cherokee Limited.

It even had the window sticker with it!

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...3/91853b22.jpg

Took it out wheeling and forgot how bad stock tires are in sand.

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...3/IMG_0370.jpg

I changed all the fluids in it and about two weeks later the radiator took a crap so I replaced it with an all aluminum one made by SILLA.

Then about 1000 miles later the real fun started! I noticed that it had oil pressure issues ever since I got it but shrugged it off as the sending unit being bad

Removed the oil cap one day and found this...

Four days later I had the engine from my '99 in my '01

I took this opportunity to install some new injectors, mustang cobra 24 lb/hr injectors.

I also fixed my heat soak issue by using white header paint on the underside of intake manifold.

And here it is finished

I installed a factory transmission cooler from a 1988 cherokee I found in the junkyard.

Once I got all of that done I had to chrome it up some. I have always wanted the chrome grill, I know chrome won’t get you home but it looks so darn good!

I then installed a Rough Country 3” AAL kit and once I drove it around for a little bit I knew the AAL was going to have to go, so I ordered some Old Man Emu Rear Leaf Springs.

I tried to save my C4x4 tow hooks but the one bracket was slightly tweaked.

Here is my Walmart light bar mod.

Patriot Blue Limited.:drool::drool: I agree the chrome grill, icon wheels, and blue paint looks awesome!

This is a hardcore build thread. Page 1 and you've already swapped an engine.

BTW, how do you like your bored TB?

Gearhead231 10-31-2010 07:31 PM

So did you have the natorious engine block I keep hearing about? or was it your head gasket?

Thanks for the compliments! Once I saw this Jeep in the ad I feel in love with it and I couldn't let it go!

For doing it for free it is a good project and the throttle response is much better but it whistles so much it gets annoying at times. There is some improvement top end but this jeep is much slower than my '99 even though it has the engine out of my '99

I had the 0331 head and the previous owner just put in tap water in it (coolant was all rusted) and then it looks like he overheated it. So the coolant leaked into the oil and destroyed the bearings in the block

Well it was a learning experience for me. Luckily I had my '99 before so I had a nice collection of tools in the garage :shhh:

does your '01 have the California emissions with the two pre-cats on the manifold then the third cat in front of the muffler? My 2000 has this and I think it robs a bit of the power. :(

My FSM shows two different versions but every '00 and '01 that I have seen has had the pre-cats.

Here are my OME leaf springs, too bad I forgot to order bushings but they will be here on Wednesday.

I thought the same thing but have seen a few 2000s and 2001s that have only one cat with the O2 sensor behind the cat. Probably depended on parts availablity at the factory or what dealers ordered. Some states were adopting the Cali emissions while others weren't.

Gearhead231 11-01-2010 10:58 PM

Im so glad I live in Iowa. Everyone drives there farm trucks so we dont have emissions tests! I could run straight pipes and no one would care...well, the cops would for noise but whatever.
