Your XJ looks really good Mobbin. Nice work.

As you are finding out there are lots of very cool places to wheel in South Central Alaska. Jim Creek is just one tiny area. The trails up and around Baldy above Wasilla are awesome. There is a cool trail system in Houston called Zero Lake. Petersville has cool trails. Purinton Creek, New Purinton Creek, Hicks Creek, Pinnacle Mountain trails are all awesome.

Some of the trails do require a fairly capable rig but there are plenty that your jeep could easily conquer.

This is the New Purinton Creek Trail. It's at about mile 95 or so on the Glenn Hwy so it's about 70 miles from Eagle River. I mention this one first because your Jeep is easily capable of making it through this trail. There is awesome scenery and several challenging but doable obstacles. And there us usually someone on this trail most days so you won't be stranded if you go it alone. I don't see a winch on your rig but you should be able to make it through everything on this trail.......unless it starts raining.

Here are a few pictures.

There are hundreds of pictures on the Alaska Toy Rental Facebook Page.

Here is a list of all the fairly easy trails in South Central. Unless there is exceptional rain many of these trails are doable in your Jeep. There is actually a book available that has great descriptions of each of the trails listed. Only a short description is available at the link below. You can also google one of the trails listed and get more information.

Alaska Wilderness Trails

You can also see many great trails in this area from Google Earth. Type in New Purinton Creek Trail and Google will show you exactly where the trailhead starts.

Yea, Aren't they all a work in progress.

I have made several small but important changes and it tightened everything up in the suspension. I have 3 more significant suspension/drivetrain mods to complete this winter and she will be pretty set.

I am likely ditching the brand new 38.5 Boggers in favor of some 42" AG tires. All my jeepin buddies have AG tires and I have to work so much harder to get through places that they just crawl through.

These are the AG tires I'm looking at. They are fairly inexpensive and very light. The actually measure out at 41 inches. It's truly amazing how much better these tires go in our mud than a new set of Boggers. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't lived it several times this summer.

The Boggers just do not compete.

That's the exact combo I have on my XJ at 5".

I had to make a few small modifications to the fronts to fit the little nub on the caliper casting
