Nothing new in the build other than I cleaned up the original trimming and took an additional 1/2" or so off in the front fenders and I freshened up the wheel wells and rockers with some rattle can flat black a few days ago. Everything as far as the cooling system is solid on all accounts since "fixing" the rad cap coolant spew problem. Got out and wheeled it last Sunday - and after wheeling a couple times since revamping the cooling system and yanking the rear sway I can say the Jeep definitely runs a little cooler and gets smoother, more complete travel in the rear.

.........and just for good measure - yes that is an H1 Hummer getting rescued by a Jeep JK:

Beat me to it Trent. Hopefully when the YJ is done Dan will be able to get another group out there.

Yes, thanks, it came out better than I expected. I'm definitely glad I went that route rather than mess with a new piece of glass.

Thanks, man, it was a pretty good time. Always cool to check out new places - especially when they're close to home.

Had some squealing going on from the front passenger wheel last couple times out. Originally, I thought it was the brakes or some crap getting hung up between the rotor and the backing plate. After some further inspection I found the culprit. So, I commenced to tearing down the front end - and let me tell ya, getting the hub bearings separated from the knuckle was a mother@#$*er!!

First I pulled the passenger side and cleaned up the knuckle:

Then the driver side:

Once I had them both out I cleaned up the shafts:

This is the passenger u-joint:

By "clean" I mean I took a wire brush to scrub all the crap and build up off, vacuumed a bunch of gunk out of the tubes, and lubed everything heavily with PB Blaster/WD40.

So, for now, the blue Jeep sits out of service again:

Yea probably about time for a new u-joint Did you try using a socket or an extension to pry the unit bearing out by turning the steering wheel?

Unfortunately for me, that wasn't working - lots of screwdriver/chisel and BFH. The hub flange was pretty well fused to the knuckle.

But yeah that passenger side is gnarly lookin, huh?

Ended up getting the front rotors turned yesterday. It's on jackstands in the garage with the front shafts pulled - why not?

Also bought a cheap pair of pads. I realize it isn't optimal but I'm willing to cheap out on easily changeable consumables. :-P

New front brakes on the beater for 27 bucks?...........gotta keep an addiction under wraps I guess.............

Still planning on it. Have yet to register being as the XJ is still sitting on jackstands in the garage. I should have the front shafts broken down and new ujoints and hub bearings swapped in tomorrow but might not get to putting it all back together until later this week. I'm not putting pen to paper on the event at KSR until the blue Jeep is back in service - so for now I have Wheelin for Toys penciled in.

Got everything back together today!

Took the shafts to a buddy's place so we could rebuild the shafts. While I was there I refinished the backing plates and he gave me a stub shaft to use as a trail spare.

Shafts back in, backing plates and hubs bolted down:

Rotors, fresh pads, and calipers back on:

Back on its own front feet:

Drove it around to check it out - all is good to go
