That's good news. I was at the upullit in Liberty this morning and saw an XJ with factory fuel skid. I remembered you want something for your fuel tank - unfortunately I didn't have the right socket or the time to wrench it off for ya. You might go check it out.

They didn't have a fan shroud either. Might just order one online for cheap because at the jy it is either the first thing scavenged or the first thing the scavengers destroy in order to get to something else.

Thanks for the tip, do you recall if it was an early model or late model cherokee, If it was on a 97-01 Il jump in the jeep and go get it. And for the fan shroud, they sell new ones on ebay for around $25 http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Fan-Shro...ht_1536wt_1397
And theres also quite a few cherokees being parted out. http://kansascity.craigslist.org/pts/3339235125.html
I ended up removing the AAL from the leafs, grinding the welds down, and added it to my current crown hd packs. I believe its supposed to go inbetween the top 2 and bottom 2 leafs but I added it under the main leaf because then the welded on leaf clamp clamped it in place rather than the aal sitting ontop of the clamp. Kind of confusing Il try to get some pictures. If it has to be inbetween the leafs Il grind those clamps off and make my own, but for now Im happy with it. Thanks again

^^^ I'll keep an eye out for your build thread for the updated pics. I think the skid was on a '95 but honestly I don't remember - I was kinda locked in tunnel vision.

Yesterday I took to another quick project. I had a 7+" aluminum flatbar (.75"x~1.5") laying in the scrap of the toolbox. So, I figured I'd make some hood spacers.

I cut two 3" pieces and drilled holes on center at 2" apart. The final bore was 5/16:

I used M8x1.25x40mm bolts and lock washers:

forumrunner_20121104_081235.jpg

Then set the spacers in each side. The hood prop will hold the hood up while you do the driver side and I used a big carpenter's square to prop the driver side while I spaced the passenger side:

And that's all there is to it. Some quick pics of the finished project:

That came out great nice work, let us know if it helps lower your engine temps.

Today was a good test run since I drove the XJ downtown for a KCJC club meeting. Temp gauge never even went to 210 - stayed just under. When I got there and back home I felt the hood and I gotta say the ZJ fan clutch and hood spacers def helpkeep the engine bay cooler because usually my hood is HOT to the touch.

Anxious to take it out wheelin to see if the efan kicks on constant by the end of a good wheelin day like it has the past couple times.

Keep us updated, might be doing this to my Jeep very soon. They are a cheap and effective way to keep the engine bay temps lower without having to cut up the hood.

The fan clutch swap is cake. First pull the old assembly off by removing the four 1/2" nuts at the pulley:

Then remove the four 13mm bolts to separate the clutch from the fan:

The two side by side:

Then bolt the ZJ clutch to the fan:

Then bolt the new-to-me assembly back on:

And viola - a simple, cheap "upgrade" that is direct fit with nothing else needed:

Attachment 500235

The clutch ran me $16 and the steel $11 - so all in I got the makings of 3 mods for under 30 bucks. The blocks and square tube are for something I hope to get to in the next week so I'll see how things go and update when updates are made.

Until next time........................
Does that ZJ clucth do anything different quiter?? smoother?? better cooling? or was that all you could find?

^^^ The ZJ fan clutch (from a 4.0 non-max cooling) will spin at 80-90 percent of shaft speed compared to the XJ clutch at 60-70 percent of shaft speed.

It is louder because it spins faster but because of this it moves more cfm's and aids in cooling. Not a massive difference but maybe 10* and sometimes the little things add up.

Do you know If that zj clutch would fit onto a 304 v8 in a cj? Or would it have any type of effect?

How are you liking that belly pan? I'm thinking of getting one. I wanted to build a flat xmember but I'm a little burnt out on fabbing lately (if that's possible). Can you get a side shot of how far it hangs down?

^^^ Love it! Thing is mos def stout! I'll get a side shot tomorrow to show ya but it really only comes down maybe 1+" below the unirail. You've got the stiffeners IIRC so maybe a touch more for you. It tucks up there a good inch or more over the factory xmember. If you get one be sure you clarify what year XJ and tcase. I swapped my tranny mount couple weeks ago and realized the belly pan was centered for the offcentered mount. I had a centered ('01) trans mount before that was trashed and when I put the new one in I put an offcentered ('99) trans mount in.
