No pics of the process just what I got done so far today - just wanted to get this overwith and have a bunch of other stuff on my plate. I couldn't drill these s.o.b.'s out w/o breaking drill bits and trying to punch them out wasn't gonna work either. But I took a couple blocks of scrap aluminum I had in the tool box (2" x 4" @ 1/2" thick roughly). I marked the holes from the bumpstops on the blocks and predrilled them with a pilot hole then used some JB Weld to "cold weld" them, as they say, to the unirail. I set them rearward about a 1/2" from the bolts that are stuck in there - just enough to clear the what's there when I drill and tap new holes. Used c-clamps to hold them while they cure overnight.

It's sloppy and it might not be optimal - but it'll give me more meat than just drilling new holes in the unirail to tap for the M8x1.25 flangehead bolts I grabbed at the hardware store this morning. Plus it's better than no bumpstops at all I'd guess. Tomorrow I'll finish up and post some pics of the finished product.

Back in business with rear bumpstops in place.

This morning I finished drilling out the mounting holes all the way through the bottom of the unirails and then tapped them with a M8x1.25 thread. I hit it with some flat black Rustoleum then some spray on undercoating:

Then anti-siezed the flangehead bolts and mounted the bumpstops:

The finished product gives me about 5.5" of uptravel before the axle hits the stop which will definately keep the tires out of the fenders if I even flex the leafs enough to stuff 'em up there.

And just because:

^^^Yeah man - not a whole lot to it really. As for SMORR:

Got down to SMORR this weekend for some camping and wheeling. Took the whole family and the dog and met up with my uncle, aunt, and cousin to do some wheelin with a great group of folks from the Christian Crawlers 4x4 club for an event they sponsored - Rock the Ozarks.

Weather was cold, wet, and sloppy as it rained all day the first day. Still got some good wheelin in on Saturday.

We had quite a spread at camp:

Did some investigating the rear bumpstop set-up on the RTI ramp. I took 2 other pics to show the rear tire stuffed but they didn't come out. Anyway, I think I might need to extend them another inch yet:

Our group hit a gathering spot to watch some Jeepers do some stuff I wasn't gonna bother w/o sturdy rock rails:

This JK scraped hardcore coming over and off the ledge:

My cousin snapped this pretty good series of me descending a really fun trail (I noticed lookin at the pics he must not have closed the door all the way):

Flexxy

It was a good day of trail runs - the rain created some sloppy conditions so the trails once again were all bumped up a notch in difficulty and limited what we were up to running.

Back at home with the aftermath:

No carnage for me There was trail damage had by some for sure. The guys with the big buggies are always fixing stuff back at the camp site - going big means the big boy trails and breakin $h!t.

Pretty sure RumbleBee laid it on his driver side on V-Notch this weekend.

Nothing new going on build wise. I did notice I have some play in the slip shaft portion of the front DS. I can move it sometimes up/down and/or side to side at the slip shaft. Other times it is rock solid. Could it be the source of my intermittent floor board thumping? IDK.

I also have some clackety chatter when turning left and no it isn't the Aussie - sounds front end related.

Thinking I may swap the spare front shaft I have with the one in the rig and pick up another front DS from a guy in my club parting a '99 auto 4x4 4.0 XJ.
I bought the spare from another part out to use with an IRO hank n tap but I might adjust those plans.

Got out and wheeled the XJ today at KSRocks Creepy Crawl. Perfect day for wheelin

Lots of folks out at the park today:

Pics of some of the fun:

My bro tilted the camera slightly for embelishment sake - but not much. I didn't make this and had to get winched out on the final line I tried after getting stuck at both driverside corners between 2 trees:

Thought I might have bent something in the front end on this climb but everything checked out:

Did some tinkering today on the XJ. Finally got around to pulling the belly pan to investigate something I had suspected:

Yep - trashed transmission mount. I was getting some horrible rattle/thumping/vibes from time to time and could even feel it in the floorboard. I looked all over the underside for a few weeks hoping I'd find something other than this that was right there in front of me and quick to fix. Nope - bad mount. I also noticed the bolt holes in the belly pan are not centered:

I marked center and point to it in the pic and you can see the trans mount holes are off center to the driver side about 1/2". I need to contact TnTCustoms in the morning to find out if the belly pans they sell are year specific so I know whether to order an off center tranny mount or not. I'll keep the thread posted on what I find out.

I also decided to pull the front driveshaft while under there to swap it with the spare I have. The spare was gonna be used for a HnT but I want to get the sloppy play in the slip shaft outta there. The spare is solid.

So - this is what I left it as for tonight - all jacked up

Besides - my daughters were itchin to do some punkin' carvin'

I'll be back with whatever it is I get to next and in the meantime Happy Halloween!!........................

~Mike~
