Same boat here, except my dad bought a 1994 model. Just got a 1999 replacement and I'm not sure on that one yet.

I am the third owner. First was a real estate agent in West Vancouver BC ($$) so it lead the life of luxury for the first 6 years of its life. Detailing, dealer service. My mother in law bought it late in 2006 and after a week of owning it I got to drive it. Told her that day I was going to buy it from her as soon as she wanted to move up. she laughed...

She sold it to me 1 year later after the rad blew and the head gasket failed (no cracks). She had the top end completely rebuilt, new rad, cooling, etc. While she was waiting for it to be done she bought a Merc SUV, so I bought her XJ.

Sadly she passed away suddenly a few months later, so I will be keeping this one in the family. The kids love it, as do I!

Dude seeing that picture of your 99 reminds me of the first jeep I had, an '01 when I was 17.

It had the same type of front end damage and it blew the airbags. The jeep was valued at about 7k.... and the airbags put it over that number!! I was pretty inexperienced with jeeps back then (well 3 years ago haha) and didnt really realize how easy it was to swap airbags out of a junkyard XJ.

Oh I totally would have swapped the airbags and fixed it but Florida has a stupid law that if the damage is more than 80% of the value it can't get a tag

Cool thread...

Third owner of mine. It was stolen from the original owner and then joy-ridden, wrecked and dumped in a back lot for a few years before my buddy picked it up for a song.

He only had it for a year before I got it 10 years ago. My son and I have spent the last few years working on restoring it. He's 10 now and it will be his when turns 15.

My other car is a mountain bike

Similar story here - bought new by my Dad in '96, then I bought it from my Mom when he passed away in '04.

Still have the window sticker and about 300 receipts he kept over the years, including the useless annual Ziebart services. Rust. Ugh.
