I actually like the last gen gto a lot. I prefer vehicles that the average person thinks is just a regular car.

That's more than I want to spend and I don't know how many miles are on it(and that bumper needs to go ASAP) but having 4.56 and lockers already could be nice?

How's this sound?


1994 180,000 miles but replaced the engine with a used one with 80k.

Looks like about 4" lift and 32s. Auto. Limited rust.

That doesn't sound bad. But if you know how to drive a clutch, a 5spd would provide the next level of performance.

I hear ya but I've been driving nothing but manuals for 11 years and I'm all for an auto off road. It's mainly(98%) going to be a wheeling rig. Just easier on me and the jeep as well.

I haven't bought one yet but what companies are at the top for XJ steering upgrades? And unibody reinforcement? Skid plates?

Great summary except for this. They moved to the 27 spline 8.25" in mid 90's (think it was 95?) and the 29 spline 8.25 in (98?). I know I've looked at a 94 with a D35 before...

Or, I could be wrong, but was pretty sure there was no trim/package bias for the rear axle, other than the special D44 packages in the 80's. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong there.

Also, I personally try to avoid coil pack engines (00-01), period. Not just the 0331 cracking issue, which some people insist is rampant, and others insist is over-hyped, but there is also coil pack failure (expensive), re-designed pistons (cracking skirts very common). Also, do the coil pack XJ engines have the same injector heat soak miss/sputter problem as the TJ's and LJ's?

97-99 are the ideal years for me. 99 gets you the horseshoe intake that is widely debated as being better (more efficient)

And always probe for rust (not just look, poke around)
