Just because I own a Jeep does not mean I think my vehicle is Gods gift to the 4x4 world. My Cherokee has its goods and its bads just like the Rover. It is true that a Rover costs way more to maintain, my family has owned one, but if you have the money to pay for the repairs why not own one? The older ones were very capable and good looking off road vehciles. I think this debate over which vehicle is better is useless. There's no factual proof that proves that a Jeep is better than a Rover or vise versa. Its all just a matter of opinion. Instead of wasting time debating over which vehicle is better, why not just be happy with the vehicle you have. Why not just recoginze the fact that differnt people enjoy wheeling in differnt vehicles and that's just the way it is. I think its quite immature and lame to be talking **** about someones rig just because its not a Jeep.
You sir will get a next time I am in Co.
Very well put. Seems I am a Judas for owning 2 different makes of 4X4... and actually liking them both equally non the less...
Beers on me next time I am in Co.

Seems you are dead set on your views, and can find everything on the internet to back it up. Of course we all know if its on the internet it must be true right?
The Defender isn't here due to Jeep? Oh sheesh. Look at the stupid Federal laws bud, along with the other bs auto makers have to go through to get approval. Going to tell me that we don't get diesel Jeeps here due to a logical reason too? Nope.
A Stock P38 vs a stock ZJ, go look it up if you calm down a little.
RTI, Traction, and so on. P38 got it.
And I am sorry, but I know of no one that has had to buy a MC for a Ranger Rover Bought them for Jeeps though over the years....hmmmm.
As I attempted to say earlier, I own both and enjoy both a lot. Do I put Jeeps, Fords, or anything else down? Nope I do not. As you go through life, you learn that there are butt holes everywhere, and they drive every type of vehicle. I have worked in 19 different countries in more than a few continents so I have an idea on the world as a whole, and that is the one constant everywhere. That and there are ugly women all over too....
Sorry to say this bud, but maybe you are a "little" biased due to your employer and what they tell you. Being in a dealership environment is not the best way to learn the facts of other brands. No matter what, your brand is the best because you need it to be to make a living.

And yes I must be a RR owner due to my attitude too.... Although you may want to see if I try to help folks out or not, to the point of offering up myself and my shop to do repairs. Arrogant SOB I am....
World economics from someone who has probably not seen the world is an exercise in futility IMHO. As I said, working for a manufacturer is not the best way to get an open minded view of the world and other products in it.
Have a wonderful day

Martin

LOL I just wanted to put up a non biased opinion, the rover did well, but unfortunaely not well enough.. and Come on just because you never had a bad MC, doesnt mean they dont do south. That is not speaking worldly. You know better, shame on you..lOL The reason they are for sale, is because they are made by man and not god, and noone is perfect.

You are correct i love my job, and I love my product, and I damn proud to say, I work for an AMERICAN car manufacturer. You know if Chrysler went under, I WOULD NOT sell imports. I've had many opportunites in the years to sell allkinds of differant brands, and I even sold VW's for a few years.. and yes Everyone claims they have the best, and if I was talking about an escape from Ford, you would have the right ot crucify me, BUT i am talking about a product that Oyou own, and Love, and apparently are passionate about. That is why we are having this convo.

Hey by the way there was other articles out ther on rubi VS defender, but I can't read bulgarian, and I think most of the other members can not either..LOL

and LOL being in a dealership is a great way to learn about other products.
Have you ever worked for a delaership? Been on a ride and drive, I go to several a year. I even blew a transmission out of a Toyota Tacoma last year in Phillypark parking lot. I did not get in trouble, I did what I was supposed to do, COMPARE the 2 brands, and unfortunately the Toy trans could not keep up to the manuevers, and grenaded itself right there in the middle of theparking lot, going from the ABS test to the acceleration test.. Toy goes boom..

Back in 99 We tested the Grand Cher against a slew of other offroad vehicles in a preserve in Allentown, PA. Real world real vehicles real mud, and rocks real Test..

My friend Jeep did offer a Diesel in 2 models in diesel, and the reason they are not offered currently is becasue of emissions, and ppl just dont want them here in the states. They sat and sat, got dead batteries, and sat some more.. That is the facts, but now all of the sudden gas prices go up, and ppl want diesels again, Funny how that works. The Liberty CRD had many issues, and were a pain in the *** after we sold them. and the mercedes 3.0 was a sweet engine, powerful, quiet, but youhad to buy a 40k limited to get that option... and Really the ppl who wanted them could not afford the payments.. These are very general statements, and I am sure there is lot more to it, but those are off the top of my head..

I personally wish they put a smaller version of a Cummins in the JK, and call it an unstoppable offroader.. and get great fuel economy..

And yes my friend I have been around, I am not a kid, I am 37 years old... so to think you are so worldly and have no clue of who I am and where I have been is arrogant...

Damn this is annoying. Martin, I totally believe you when you say that you have less problems with your rover than your Jeep. But, the 4 or 5 people (family friends) that I know that have had Rovers have all eventually ditched them because of how much maintenance they required. And I'm not saying that because I'm biased or anything, I love Range Rovers/Land Rovers, and I know they can be killers off-road. Stock-for-stock I think the RR would have the upper-hand. I gather my opinions on the reliability of them from personal experience though, not just because of the stereotypes.

Agreed, and if you look at that link the Jeep won by a SLIM margin, but still won for half the price.. and there are otehr comparisons otu there, but they are written in some languages I can't read..LOL

Guess I am arrogant then.
I didnt say you were a kid, or anything like it. But have you seen economics first hand in different continents? That was my point. I knew your age, that profile thing comes in handy at times
You are correct, I do love my rigs, both of them
When people group everyone into a category, that hurts us all bud. I have had more negative comments from the ill informed on my Jeeps than I have the Range Rover.
I have driven the top of the line Jeeps (up to a 2008), and can honestly say my (1998) Range Rover is in a different league, as it should be when you compare the cost of the ticket to get in!
Ease of maintenance is another big plus with a LR product. They were after all originally designed to be a work horse. I can do a full fluid change a LOT quicker on a RR than on any Jeep. Drain plugs everywhere and very easy to work on.
As I said before more than once, comparing a luxury SUV to a Jeep is not a fair fight to begin with. Compare prices to a G500, Lexus ora BMW wanna be 4x4 and then we can talk apples to apples.

I was at Rausch Creek last weekend. my xj open/open on 33's did better in the comp course than a land rover on 36's locked front and rear. At about 1/8 the cost, i'd say not bad.

Deff a jeep, there's way more aftermarket for them and they are much cheaper in terms of the acutal vehicle, parts, etc.

Personally don't like them cause they seem way to top heavy for me, would not want to put that vehicle in a serious off camber situation.

Wow, you are definitely escalating this thread all on your own. Time to look in the mirror. No really, I can just feel the rage boiling in your blood... it's really not worth it.

Anyway, I think what the Cherokee is lacking is a proper factory LSD or Lockers. That is where most stock Land Rovers have the advantage (traction control etc). If you like to modify your vehicles to any extent, this is an easy disadvantage to overcome with a Jeep and it will make a night and day difference. Otherwise, the Cherokee has all the basic essentials for a real off-road vehicle. Unlike a mall-crawler that needs heavy modification (think axle/engine swaps etc) the Cherokee just needs a few relatively easy and inexpensive "tweaks" to become a reliable and hard-to-beat off road machine.

Personally I like to tinker with my vehicles and I don't have a lot of cash. My local yard has tons of Jeeps/Cherokees (no Land Rovers) so for people like me the Cherokee is a great choice.

Then a Porche Cayenne should outperform my Suzuki?

I have a manually trans on my Cherokee which was easy to change fluid on. The oil also very easy. It's hard to beat 5 minutes..

Sure it is, if you don't value luxury over simplicity.

My XJ is very capable as well on 31's with open front and rears, it is up to the driver at that point to make the right decisions, and work with what you have..

Jeep/Rover , Camaro/Mustang , American/Import , does it really matter ? I say drive what you like , listen to whatever kind of music you enjoy . But remember 2 very important things in life . . . DON'T ever mess with another mans woman OR his ride .

ok if i was on a budget i would rather get an XJ and mod it out rather then spend a but load on a land rover..

but if money was no object a modded out rover would be pretty sick

Not this again. By friend has a blown head gasket in his 98 Disco. He wants an XJ.

X2 on the getting along. You can't generalize the capabilities of any rig, just like you can't generalize the drivers of the rigs.

There a tons of arrogant LR drivers, and plenty of arrogant Jeep drivers. Just like there are plenty of arrogant Toyota drivers, Dodge drivers, etc.

You can't come to a Jeep forum and hope to get an unbiased response. I'm personally getting sick of seeing 'v.s' threads.

Just my two cents, though.
