It would be a bummer to see you without a heep. You are a source of inspiration and good ideas for many others.

Keep up the good work!

Buy a better one next time.

Also, sucks to see but glad you're fixing it.

Other than getting a 99 instead of an 00 so you have the HP 30 and don't have a cracky head, I'm not sure how you get a better one. This thing was cherry when I bought it. It just hit that magic 10-year fall-apart time in my ownership. Just because I understand it, it doesn't aggravate me any less.

The gauges / no_bus I can't fix are stock. The blower motor resistor was a stock component whose failure was poorly thought out. The wiring I have to keep plugging back into the blower motor is stock. The child lock-out switch I had to bypass to return control function to the passenger doors? Stock. The 0331 head that cracked from overheating just briefly one time? Also stock.

I agree. I remember reading this thread last year right after I joined the forum. I thought to myself: "hey, this guy is pretty sharp, he has some good ideas".

I hope you plan on fixing your rig. It's really to nice to just turn your back on it at this point.

You guys are too kind! It will be fixed this time, for sure. The radiator will be here today so and I'll be working on straightening the crossmember and swapping the power steering pulley.

I've hit that too, but I didn't hit whatever you did up there thank god.

This right here is a reason to press on, you don't want Matt to have gone farther than you.

I am such an introvert that I am absent the competitive drive most people have.

Tonight, on my build thread: Carol climbed a fence, Charlie bought a mug and I straightened my member.

Or something.

This is where we left off.

A trip to Lowe's yielded a solid 1/2" eye bolt and some fender washers. Other implements of destruction were also gathered.

I drilled a couple holes in the crossmember, installed the eye bolt with 6 washers behind the crossmember. I added a 3/4" shackle to the eye bolt and hooked a come-along between the shackle and a hook mounted in 1/2" plate on my truck's rear bumper. Wheels were chocked on each vehicle and careful pulls were made through both holes in the Jeep crossmember. A ball peen hammer was employed at times along with some 2x6, a Hi-Lift, etc. It's not aesthetically perfect but it's hidden behind the bumper, so I don't care. I'm sure it's not as strong as new but it's damn sure good enough for this Heep. I pulled measurements on the radiator posts and checked the clearances on each side and everything's going to work out fine.

I started planning my 14-bolt FF swap on my truck and decided I needed to finish the Jeep first so last night I ordered the last of the parts I need to put it back together. They'll be here probably the end of next week.

This weekend I pulled the rest of the header panel, stuck the power steering pulley on, installed the AC condenser, radiator, electric fan, and fabricated mounting brackets so the trans cooler is attached independently. I've still go to install the header panel, serpentine belt, and fan shroud then pull the front bumper out of my garage attic, reinstall the LEDs, and modify the new grille for the lights. It's coming together though.
