junkyard seats in an xj

My 98 xj has a gangsta lean now. What junkyard seats can I use besides xj seats? I'll even take seats out of a rice rocket

If your having truck problems, I feel bad for you bud, I got 99 problems but my jeep ain't one.

ZJ seats.

If you own a Renix Jeep, you'll want to check this out.

ZJ and WJ front seats swap directly to 96+ bases. Much better seats too.

So wj seats will mount right up? Won't have to change brackets or anything? Do they sit higher or lower on the seat as well?

See post #3 - yes you need to switch the ZJ seats onto the XJ brackets

Then read a bit using the search tool for other details.

Depends on the JY. The ones near me charge about $20 a seat.

Yes, and so are ZJ seats.

Keep in mind that Grand Cherokee seats at least in my experience sit about a half inch to an inch higher than XJ seats. This might be an issue for you if you have very little headroom with the current seats. I've swapped ZJ seats into my XJ and a buddy's XJ. Both are much comfier and the swap took 20 minutes.

The ZJ and WJ seats bolt directly onto 96+ seat tracks. Seats with manual recline require no modification. Power seats need wires run to them (a simple power and ground wire setup) in order to work.

I'm a shorter guy so headroom is not an issue haha. I just want a comfy seat.. I'm not worried about power seats either. What all do I need from the junk yard?

You just need the seats. There are bolts holding the seat to the seat tracks, just unbolt the seat from the tracks and bolt it on your XJ seat tracks.

Just to save you some time, it's 12 or 13mm nuts (forget which) that have to be removed. There's 4 of them, one in each corner of the seat. They're kind of a ***** to get to (front more so than the rear), but you can do it with a socket if you don't have ratcheting wrenches. It was a lot easier for me to get all 4 of them from behind the seats than trying to get to any of them from the front.

Thanks for the help. I went with a set of wj seats out of a freedom edition one.. I couldn't be happier.. the nuts were a pain to get to. The seats I got had jeep embroidered right into the headrest and they look awesome.
