Jeep Cherokee XJ Body Lift

So I'm thinking about putting a 3'' body lift on my jeep. Its about a 150 bucks. But I would like to put it on myself so its cheaper and so I can learn how lol. So I'm just wondering if thats a bad idea to do it myself. I have all the tools I need(i think). Also some one told me ill have to lengthen my hoses and other things..??? So ya, any help would be awesome. Thanks!

Not sure if I should save OP from ridicule or not.....

He's a hero born and bred, but it hasn't swelled his head,

Unless you plan on cutting out the frame rails and fabricating a frame I think you're going to be pretty disappointed.

Yes, The XJ is a "uni-frame" vehicle. The frame rails are welded to the floor which makes body lifts rather difficult.

I would suggest that we make a sticky in the cherokee section which solely states that you can't do a body lift on an xj, but obviously the people that post this stuff don't search anyway so I guess it's pointless...

I finished mine up last week. 3" body lift. Love it, makes cleaning the top of my frame rails real easy for cruising around the mall. Also improved my offroad ability, self esteem, and credit score. No complaints here.

When I saw the title of this post, my first thought was "How harsh would the replies be ?" My second thought was "I hope Motorcharge has seen it." I was impressed with the outcome of both.

What are you trying to say...

If anything I think I get overly excited when I see these threads hoping someone with some fab skill has come along.

lol. Thanks for the feed back. Looks like I won't do it then. I'm probably just gonna go with a 3'' suspension lift. Only thing is I have air bags because my leaf springs are getting flat. Should I replace my leaf springs if im planning on putting on a suspension lift? Thanks

It is probably for an SJ (pre-84) Cherokee, those were basically 2-door Wagoneers and were body on frame.

Here are some examples of this:

3 Inch Body Lift for 1975-82 Jeep Full Size Cherokee and Wagoneer SJ With 10 Mounts

Performance Accessories 3" Body Lift Kit

I want to see a picture of your Jeep with the flat leaf springs and air bags. Your profile says you have a 98 XJ, is this the Jeep you wanted to do the 3" lift on? Who did the air bags? Why would you pay for air bags instead of replacing the leaf packs? Are you the mall ninja?
