Intro. and help with first Jeep (97 XJ)
Let me give everyone a bit of back story so that my question will make sense. I am recently married and my wife and I are living in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. We are teaching at an International School. We are buying our first vehicle as a couple, and it is a 97 XJ (4.0, I6). I have helped work on some friend's XJs but I have never owned one. We are both very excited!
Living in Central America causes certain issues when it comes to acquiring parts. Jeeps are not super popular here and the parts can be expensive. We will be coming back to the states this summer and I will be bringing a few parts with me.
Any suggestions for specific small parts that I should have as a back up? We will not be taking it on any expedition, per se, but the roads are ridiculous and the weather is hot. I will like to have an emergency back up in case relays fry or fuses blow, etc. It will mainly be used for day to day driving around the city with occasional 200+ mile trips.
Any maintenance issues I need to be prepared for that are specific to the XJ? For the one we are buying, the O2 sensors are new, brakes are new, shocks are new, and the fan relay is new.
Any help is MUCH appreciated! We are a little intimidated by buying a CA vehicle, but why not!
Grace and Peace,
I believe a lot of the xj's sold down there actually came with Dana 44 axles front and rear
