HP/ LP shaft compatability

Hey yall.
Fixing up a hp30 with 3.55 form an unknown year XJ. Plans are to install it with my LP30 shafts and unit hubs since they are in much better condition. Besides checking the spline count is there any other reason that the lp shafts would not work in a hp housing? Perhaps all D30 shafts have the same spline...could anybody verify that? Just haven't had time to pull the shafts from my LP as its still being driven on and off. Also going to drop in an auto locker for it.

XJ, MJ, ZJ and TJ D30 unit/bearing hubs, disk brake rotors, brake calipers, and axle shafts are interchangeable for all years 1990-2001, and for HP vs. LP.

See this thread for more info about mixing and matching unit hubs/rotors ->Unit hub and Rotor fit differences and swapping info

.

A recent Gallup public opinion poll shows the NRA, at 58% approval, has a higher approval rating than either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.

^ what Tim said. Just make sure everything you use is for the same year. I did the same (swapped out LP & installed a HP). Everything went fine except I had bought different year brake rotors & they were 1/8" wider & hit the "c" where your ball joints are. Basically just match model year.

All D30 are 27 spline unless you or the PO installed a super30 kit. I'd recommend installing new HD U Joints since you'll already have the axles out.

Thanks thats great info guys!! Just to cover myself Im using the shafts, unit hubs, rotors, calipers and brake pads from my 2001 axle and installing it all on the unknown year hp30. I already have the upgraded spicer ujoints on the shafts.

Caronaxtr- did you have any issues running a hp in the xj since you have two pre cats on the exhaust system? I heard the pinion will contact them on full stuff. How much lift are you running? Im at 3" but have 2" spacers to use if needed

I don't have any issues as I'm at about 5.5" of lift I haven't wheeled it yet so no major flexing. But it looks like I've got plenty of clearance. If you're at stock height I think you'd make contact, but 3"-4" +/- I think you'll be fine. I do have some driveline vibs now & didn't before. I'm not sure if it's from the front DS or the rear. I may have to out new U joints in the front DS.

Good luck.
