How to make old rims look new again.

Hey guys, and gals I have a set of snow flake aluminium rims that are dull, tarnished and oxidized. They look nice on my jeep but I'd like to make them look newish again and would like to know my options. Can I just sand them down and re clear coat them or just sand down and then just polish them? Please help. Thanks
