How do you fold down back seats flat in a jeep cherokee sport 2001?

I just purchased a jeep and I wanted to know how to you fold down the back bench? I am able to release the back part of the seat but with the straps on each side of the actual seat it wont release easily. I dont want to break the seat but do you have to pull it up hard? Is there any special way to do it? thanks any information is highly appreciated!

Umm pull up the bottom, then there should be two leavers on either side. Pull one of them and that will release the seat back, then you pull it down.

my bottom seat cushion tends to stick (maybe because I have so much stuff packed under there) if one strap doesnt release it just try the other, or push down then pull up. hard to break it.

you can also pull the whole bottom seat cushion out of the XJ so the upright back part will fold down more, once its up look for the release lever on the pivot pin, then just pull out to the side..

pull the bottom part of the seat up, there should be two straps on either side of the bench to pull on, that will lift the bottom part vertical. Then you need to fold down the backrest of the seat, there should be tabs on the rear of the seat that you pull, they are connected so once you pull one tab the other one unlatches also. After that you can fold the backrest down flat.

But if the driver or the passenger side seat's are reclined back enough or slid back enough you wont be able to prop the bottom part of the bench far enough up so you can slide the backrest of the bench down flat.
