I hit a deer coming home from wheeling back in January. It totaled my 96 XJ. It had a 2" BB and 31" Duratracs on it. And some other stuff. it was my moms DD. She got in a front end collision and gave it to me when she got a new car. I built it for her. It started life bone stock. I rattle canned it satin black.
Here's what it looked like that day.

I needed something to drive/wheel so I picked up this 94 XJ. 1994 5 speed, 4wd. 237k miles on it. I drove about 2 hours to get it. I could have gotten something closer but I wanted a 5 speed. I picked it up for $850, with it needing some work. It has a tan interior which I also like better than the grey in my old 96.

So seeing how you are a previous XJ owner, its safe to stay this isnt staying stock long. Whats your plans?

BlueBadger 04-14-2012 03:57 PM

I love the AX-15 in my '92 but your '94 has an external slave which is much better. I can't wait to get my bike done so I can start on the XJ again!!!

It's definitely not staying stock. Plans are a small lift, 31s, etc.... I will be using a bunch of parts from previous xjs ive had. Factor roof rack, light bar, flat flares, and maybe a snorkel.

As you can see, the paint is ****. The clear coat is peeling very bad on the hood. First thing I did was get it painted and fix the grill. It was between black or intense blue. I havent seen another intense blue XJ, so I chose that. I did all the prep work(sanding and priming) and had maaco spray it for $400. I trimmed for the flat flares before I got it painted.

It was sitting low when I got it. It was at 16.5" at the rear which is about an inch of sag. The springs were inverted. The front was also equally low. The stock suspension was very bad with 240k on it. I would bottom out over every bump and make a loud banging noise. My bumpstops both front and rear were non-existant. Luckily I had a $100 lift kit from my old XJ that I had pieced together when it was my moms. It consisted of good leaf packs w/ a 2.5" AAL and 1.75" coil spacers with decent coils. I just cut the old coils out. In the rear, the drivers side front nut broke. No problem, I've dealt with it before. I cut the leaf off, then the bushings, then cut a hole in the pocket. I cut the end of the bolt, then the nut, and then the bolt to get it out. I had some good spare leaf bolts laying around so no time lost. Definitely noticeably higher. I also ditched the rear swaybar for good. The front is off for right now. I might get new bushings and out it back on, I might not.
Here's the lifted pics

Looking good! Nice color choice!

Very nice! I hope to have mine that clean soon. But I've been saying that most of the 15 years I've owned mine.

The stock radio didn't work when I got it. I like music too. I ordered some speakers and stuff. I'll have more on that later though.

For now I'm working on painting new wheels. I got stock 5 spokes from a YJ. They came on some XJs. I did a test wheel and am now painting the other 3. I also picked up a set of 4 31x10.5r15 Baja Claws for $250. 2 have very good tread and 2 have deceit tread but are a little cupped.

Had a caliper lock up and I haven't gotten much done with school and crew but I did the brakes.
New pads, turned rotors, reman calipers, and yj take lines.

I also replaced the ignition switch so I now have working turn signals, blower, and wipers. I was also able to get rid of the rigged push button start. No pics of that though.

Next is finishing the wheels, bedlining the rockers, and getting the flat flares put on.

Got one mounted. I should be able to pick up the rest tomorrow.

VegasGT 05-02-2012 10:32 PM

Clean job on the wheels. Im a sucker for attention to detail.

BriansCJ 05-04-2012 10:25 AM

Wheels and tires are done and on. No problems. Drives smooth at 80 mph. Rockers are bedlined as well. The flat flares wont be going on, and are now for sale. I mocked them up and just don't like how they look. They looked better on my other XJ. Plus I don't want to destroy them in the woods. I'm just going to trim the fenders to the lip.
I'll have pics in a little bit.
