I had a wheel fall off on the side of the highway while coming home from a offroad park. stoped to fix it and when i went to pull back out into traffic I cut off a dodge truck. (now, it was dark, he shoudl have been in the other lane to give me room but still) I couldnt see out of any off my windows or mirrors. The truck swerved and fishtailed at 80+ mph, i thought for sure he was going to crash. He saved it though. It was very scarry. Ever since then i always make sure i can at lease see out of my back window and mirrors. Last thing i need it to crash someone and have them sue me. but i have driven around tow with alot of mud on my jeep before and never got pulled over for that. If they started making a list like that for my jeep i would be screwed. (lift to high, tires stick out to far, shackles to long, offroad lights ect) Most of which cops dont even know are illegal. I just try not to give them a reason to pull me over because if they want to find somethign they will...
You live in michigan, they don't require fenders let alone the tires stick out past the pre-existing fenders.

Some of these guys on here are giving you good advice so hopefully you will see things differently.

Consider what the trooper may have witnessed at the call before he stopped you... or the day before... or last week. Maybe it was a car crash, fatality, hurt or killed kids.... You don't know but he might just be looking after your well-being as well as others on the road that might be injured because of you. If you or your family was seriously hurt because someone was driving a vehicle with caked on mud covering windows and mirrors (ie: obstructing view) I think you would be very pissed at that person and threatening lawsuit, would you not?

down here in louisiana, ALL cops are asses! sad, but true. they are known for giving tickets just to be a ****. I work for homeland security I do search and rescue, so technically, I am a part of law enforcement. ( I carry a badge, and I'm commissioned by state police). the pricks around here have a tendency of hiding their motorcycles and using hand held radars, and/or stopping people for no apparent reason, to see if they have insurance. they use this to do whatever they want. I'm gettig to where I hate cops so much, my brother's a new orleans police officer and I'm starting to hate him!
now, I own a 1985 dodge ram. it's powered by a 900hp cat, has 19" of lift, and spinning 53" boggers. really not street legal, but when I go to my home town I drive it. the chief of police is my cousin and it's so small they only have 4 cops. I could see being stopped in that, but because my jeep has 6.5 inches of lift and 33's? thats sad. why bother people like myself for driving a (legal) lifted jeep, when *******s are dealing crack in public and they don't bother them? at one time police officers believed in duty, loyalty, service, and respect. now, it's pricks on a power trip. I wear a seatbelt, and respect the law. I know not all cops are bad, but there is enough to make them all look it.
by the way, a few years ago, a friend and I were driving down the road. (doing nothing wrong.) a police officer got behind us but didn't pull us over. within 2 minutes, we had 6 behind us. all at one time they lit us up, and stopped me. we were ordered out of the truck and told to lay face down on the street. all the time having shot guns leveled on us. in the end, I was ticketed for failure to comply with D.O.T. regulations. (slicks and a roots blower sticking out the hood. one of my friends that works with the sheriffs office heard it on the radio and told me it was because I was driving a lowrider. he felt it was suspicious and warranted all that. now you tell me, that was good law enforcement? screw cops, I told the primary officer to kiss my *** and he had the nerve to ask me if I didn't like him..... my reply? I nicely said......... I wouldn't piss in your mouth if your teeth were on fire. 5 hours later, my dad posted my bail. in court, the judge ordered me to write a letter of apology to the officer. I refused. when asked why, I stated, he didn't show any respect to me nor my friend, pointed weapons at us for unjust reasons, and and stereotyped us. I meant every word I said. after that the judge withdrew the request, but said next time watch my mouth. so I still say cops suck!!!!

there some cases that call for being stopped. I repeat not all cops are bad. if you do something that warrants being stopped, pay the ticket. you likely deserved it. if you are doing something that endangers the public or yourself, you deserve to be ticketed. I'd rather see you or me be givin a ticket rather than kill a family.

Its weird, they say be nice and courteous and maybe the officer will give you a break. Hell, I've been given compliments on my behavior while getting pulled over as they handed me the ticket. I am always totally honest when they ask why they pull me over, "Sir, do you know why I pulled you over?", "Uh, yeah, I'm not wearing my seatbelt." "Bingo! here's the ticket you won!!"

I was pulled over about 2 weeks ago by the houma police dept. they had a D.W.I. checkpoint set up, as I got into the stopping area, I was asked for my license, registration, and insurance. as I'm getting it out, he spotted my 9mm in my console. before another word was spoken, he opened my door ans asked me to step out with my hands where he could see them. he never drew his weapon, or got rude. after I exited, I told him I'm with homeland and showed my badge. he called it in to confirm it, and apologized to me.
in that situation, I believe he acted well within the law. he showed respect, and followed procedure to the letter. sad, he was a 26 yr veteran police officer. what happened to the older generation? now we got kids thinking they bad with a badge.

Here in Idaho seat belt laws are not a moving violation and therefore you cannot be pulled over based on not wearing a seat belt (allthough ive been pulled over for "speeding" and then was "let go" with a seat belt ticket). Which brings me to my next point, seat belt laws are horse ****. They do save lives (trust me i know, rolled a pickup on the interstate and wound up with my legs out the side window, no seat belt and i woulda been the human missle) but it should be an individuals choice to wear them or not. I don't see how anybody should be able to force you to do anything regarding your own personal safety unless its a direct liability to the parties involved (think rock climbing at a gym, waivers). Same goes for a suicide ticket (yes we have them and yes i know somebody who got one for jumping off a 20 ft. cliiff into a river, he was swimming not trying to kill himself). I mean nobody should be wanting to end their life, but the fact that theres a law against it just sits wrong with me. People need to realize the life is damn dangerous and that there are risks in everything you do. If your to chicken **** to accept those risks then maybe you should put your helmet back on and have mommy help you tie you shoes.

Had I just put the belt around my shoulder like it was buckled he probably never would have pulled me over.

Don't complain because an leo was doing his job. Ultimately, it's your fault for getting pulled over.
I admitted to it being my own fault in the post before yours.

Anyways...

Local PD is actually a bunch of nice guys, have never met an *** PD yet and I have gotten PLENTY of tickets. Even when I was hauling ***,. topped out the XJ 95+ on the highway and cop caught up to me, I pulled over as quick as I could and still cool guy, "Sir I think you know why I pulled you over.... license, insurance, and why were you going so fast?" I told him I was late for class, which i was, and he wrote the ticket as quick as he could saying "OK sir I will do this quick and easy, hear is your ticket this is the court date, and drive safe to school." it was a quick 5 min stop.

But yeah a friend of mine is a trooper also and I told him the name of the officer who pulled me over. He turns to me and says dude, I'm sorry that guy is a prick and an ***, no matter how small the violation even if it was just a warning stop he will get you for all your worth!! He is currently trying to get this ticket "fixed" for me. He might be able to turn it into a warning, hopefully.

On another note: I love our local PD they are the ones who are taking care of all the hoodlums that are reeking havik in my area, steeling cars, breaking and entering, steeling stuff out of garages. I know 2 cops who are very close friends and in knowing them have only grown to appreciate our local law enforcement. Sheriff round here are pretty kool as well.

i tend to agree. the way i look at it, a good amount of the cops out there like wrenching in their spare time on their own vehicles and offroading driving safe on the road and just bombin around offroad, they dont seem to care as long as its not annoying other people. im assuming thats why they pay more attention to the ricers because theyre usually cocky and annoying where as offroaders are just normal people.
