Good deal on my first Cherokee?

So I picked up a 1994 Jeep Cherokee sport today. It definitely needs some tlc and work, but I thought it was a good buy.

The good
170,000, straight 6
The transmission was replaced, new tranny only has 20k (have the paperwork)
3.5 inch Rubicon lift
Runs and drives strong

The bad:
Needs and exhaust system
needs front end alignment possibly
front drivers side door will not open from either side
passengers side window doesn't work
taped on headlight
needs Power Steering High Pressure Hose

All in all its pretty close to road ready and I figured the lift and transmission were worth more than I paid for it.

I got it for $900

What do you guys think? Glad to have a Jeep again

Yeah, that's a pretty freaking great deal for the minor issues you have listed.

$1000 for a running Jeep is a pretty decent deal in most circumstances. The lift and trans aren't really worth $900 though. Used lift wont bring in much, esp what's a short arm and likely an AAL. The trans you could get a few hundred for though. Is it actually new or rebuilt/remanned/ect?

Either way, not a bad deal and you could definitely part it out or fix it and sell it for $900 easily.

The trans was bought actually new. As for the lift, that's true, I was just thinking it would probably be cheaper to by this and fix the smaller things, then buy one without little problems and add a lift and whatever other extras.

Amen, I see deals like this weekly, but they go quick and I check craigslist here and locally daily. I'd have a lot more XJs, ZJs, and WJs to flip if I had somewhere to keep them.

I picked up a 98 with 170k for 1200$. Guy told me it needed a new transfer case stuck in four wheel drive. I couldn't believe it was bad. Bought it and found out the linkage was bent. Running strong still. 207K

I see 00-01 XJs in good shape with blown 0331 heads pretty often for around $800-1000 pretty often. Been tempted to get one for a DD for a while, but I don't think I could own an XJ without dumping a ton of money into building it.

I hear you, I'm already planning on what I want to add to it and I haven't even bought the things it needs yet -.-

For an exhaust, if you want a louder one, I recommend Iron Rock Offroad's catback exhaust, with the hi-flow cat, i think its like $263 to your front door, easy to install cause you can just sawzall the old exhaust off before the cat.. I scrapped my cat at the local scrap yard for $130.. So i practically paid 130 bucks for a brand new exhaust minus header...
